What residents can expect as Ontario moves in Step Two of reopening

The urge of people receiving vaccines and low case numbers across the province has allowed the provincial government to safely be able to move in Step Two of the province’s Roadmap to Reopen Plan.

As of 12:01 this morning the province has officially begun Step Two. This next step is due to the province surpassing the required vaccine thresholds of 70 percent or people needing at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 20 percent being fully vaccinated.

Man missing from Winnipeg frequents Toronto area

Authorities say a missing West St. Paul man was last seen almost three months ago near Winnipeg's outlet mall.

RCMP Manitoba says 41-year-old Kienan (Kenny) Tran was last seen near the Outlet Collection Shopping Mall on April 5, and was reported missing on May 28.

"Police are concerned for Tran’s well-being," RCMP Manitoba says in a statement.

Police say he is known to frequent the Greater Toronto Area.

He is 5’7” and 130 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair.

Woman in custody after 8 robberies, threatening staff with syringe, knife

Police are charging a suspect after a string of robberies in West Kildonan and Norwood neighbourhoods.

Starting on April 24 to June 17, the Winnipeg Police Service says eight robberies occurred at retail clothing outlets and drugstores.

Spots include:

  • the 800 block of Leila Avenue
  • the 1000 block of Leila Avenue
  • the 2300 block of McPhillips Street
  • first 100 block of Marion Street 

They believe they are all connected to one suspect.

No deaths, 61 new COVID cases Tuesday

Winnipeg is seeing less than 30 new COVID-19 cases.

Sixty-one new COVID-19 cases are being identified in Manitoba on Tuesday.

New cases include:

  • 29 cases in the Winnipeg health region
  • 15 cases in the Northern health region
  • 11 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region
  • six cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region

There are no new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region.

Manitoba goes from 'COVID Capital' to a vaccine capital

Manitoba's Premier says the province is seeing success in its vaccine efforts, making Manitoba a Canadian leader in vaccinations.

According to the University of Oxford's Our World in Data, Canada is topping the charts in first dose vaccinations. In Canada, Manitoba's Premier Brian Pallister says the prairie province is taking that lead.

June 29: NWHU reports one new positive COVID-19 case

The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed one new positive COVID-19 test result in the region.

The positive case has been confirmed in the Kenora Health Region.

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

The NWHU is reporting 8 active COVID-19 cases across the district. Six cases in the Rainy River Health Region and two in the Kenora Health Region but one of those cases have been confirmed to be outside of the NWHU catchment area.
