Could be a big weekend for Broncos Matthew Van Blaricom at the NHL Draft
This weekend, many hockey players will see their dreams come true when they hear their name called at the National Hockey League (NHL) Draft and that includes one member of the Humboldt Broncos, Matthew Van Blaricom.
The draft gets underway on Friday night with the first round taking place inside of the Sphere in Las Vegas. The first 32 selections will be made on the opening night.
City Council explores possibility of new housing units
With a growing community like Humboldt, the need for housing will always be present.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, the first readings were given to a pair of rezoning bylaw changes that could potentially allow for new housing units to be developed.
The first spot is the parcels of land in the southeast corner of the city by 101st St and Saskatchewan Ave, that are currently listed as acreage residences, but that site has been identified as a location that could potentially see the creation of housing that may include street townhouses.
Weekend Update: Summer Sizzler is on!
The Summer Sizzler is back!
The popular midway will run Friday from 3-10 pm and wrap up on Saturday 12-10 pm.
On Friday, Houligan Acres will be on site with a petting zoo.
Finishing off the Sizzler with be a jammed packed day of activities with a mixture of Sizzler and Canada Day traditions. The day begins with a pancake breakfast with the Soup Kitchen at Civic Park.
Lady Friday kicks off Summer Sizzler
The weather cooperated on Wednesday night, as a strong contingent gathered at Civic Park in Humboldt for the Summer Sizzler kickoff concert with Lady Friday performing. There was also a fundraising barbecue with the proceeds going towards Arts Humboldt.
The Sizzler will get underway on Thursday with the first day of the midway.

The aftermath of Sunday's storm still being calculated
Summer in Saskatchewan usually comes with unpredictable weather, and that was evident on Sunday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg explains that tornado activity occurred near Martensville and close to Melfort. He added that they will conduct a follow-up investigation to analyze the exact damage from the storm.
There have been reports of a tornado touchdown in the RM of Bayne near Bruno.
Hammerheads compete in Regina swim meet
The Humboldt Hammerheads took part in their first swim meet of the summer in Regina this past weekend with 28 swimmers participating.

Kris Knoblauch will always remain a hockey hero in Imperial
It wasn’t the result they wanted on Monday night, but the town of Imperial is still glad to call Edmonton Oilers Head Coach Kris Knoblauch one of their own.
A strong turnout gathered inside the Imperial Arena to cheer on the local product and the Oilers' attempt to make history in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers. The evening included a brisket supper hosted by the Volunteer Fire Department, and the hockey game was viewed on a big screen.
SJHL & MJHL announce pair of Showcase events
The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) along with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) have announced a pair of showcases that the two leagues will take part during the 2024-25 season.
In November, the two leagues will take part in an event in Warman serving as an elite identification camp for the 2024 World Junior A Challenge. More details will be announced at a later date.
Riders complete sweep of Tiger-Cats with 36-20 win
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are heading into their first bye week of the 2024 season with a perfect 3-0 record after a 36-20 victory over the Hamilton Ti-Cats.
Running Back AJ Ouellette had his best game in a green uniform with 98 rushing yards along with 47 receiving yards.
Saskatchewan’s defence had a solid night, forcing three interceptions including one returned for a touchdown by former Ti-Cat Jameer Thurman.
East Central U15 Wolverines claim City Championship
The East Central U15 Wolverines capped off a successful by claiming the city championship on the weekend in Saskatoon.
Heading into the championship playoffs, the Wolverines were seeded third after a record of 8-4-2 during the regular season.
Everything came together for the squad in the playoffs with a perfect weekend, picking up four straight wins on route to the city title.
