QB Kurtis Rourke highlights Saskatchewan Roughriders 2025 Draft class

It’s been a big week for the next wave of football players on both sides of the border. The Canadian Football League (CFL) draft took place on Tuesday night following the National Football League (NFL) Draft on the weekend. 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders most prolific draft pick had his name called in both drafts. 

With their third-round selection (25th overall), the green and white selected Quarterback Kurtis Rourke from Indiana University. 

Humboldt Golf Club is ready to tee off for another season

Golfers can dust off their clubs and hit the greens once again.  

The Humboldt Golf Club will officially open the course to golfers tomorrow (May 1) morning at 9:00 am. The range opened last week, giving golfers a chance to finetune their swing before they hit the links.  

Crews have been busy over the last couple of weeks getting the course ready for the new season.  

SaskPower reminds about power line safety during seeding season

With seeding in Saskatchewan set to begin, SaskPower is sending a safety reminder when working near power lines.  

There were 262 farm-related incidents involving power infrastructure, a decrease from 268 in 2023 according to SaskPower. 

They also noted most of these incidents occurred in the spring.

Several local communities benefit from Community Rink Affordability Grant

During the winter months, skating and curling rinks are the hubs of activity in Saskatchewan. 

To help ensure these facilities remain up to standard, the Community Rink Affordability Grant, which is administrated by the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is available to communities.  

Humboldt RCMP investigating crimes in Watson and Lanigan

Humboldt RCMP are seeking assistance identifying individual(s) responsible for breaking into and stealing cash and jewelry from business on Main Street in Watson.

It's believed that cash and jewelry were stolen from a business on April 4 as well a door of the business was kicked in. Police are investigating. 


Also, Humboldt and Lanigan RCMP are investigating a break and enter incident that occurred in Lanigan early in the morning of March 21. 

Three suspects forced entry by smashing the front door window before entering the home. 

Fire ban issued for RM of Kelvington

A fire ban has been issued for the Rural Municipality (RM) of Kelvington No. 366 due to an extreme fire hazard condition within the RM.

With the ban in effect, that means no person can light, start, ignite a fire of any kind in the open air, including controlled burns, burning barrel fires, recreation fires or smudge fires. 

CSA-approved self-contained heating devices or Pressurized stoves are not a part of the ban.

Lighting and discharging fireworks are prohibited. 

Traffic stop in Wynyard results in multiple drug and weapon charges for local 51-year-old man

A 51-year-old man from Wynyard is facing multiple drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop in the community.  

On March 12 at approximately 2:00 am, Jason Wingert was arrested by Wynyard RCMP in relation to an ongoing investigation.  

Practice range opened at Humboldt Golf Course

 

You can get the clubs out of storage as the practice range is now open at the Humboldt Golf Course. 

Range balls are available in the upstairs lounge. 

The pro shop will open on Monday at 9 am.

No official date has been set for the opening of the course for the season, but maintenance crews are currently working on the course to get it ready as soon as possible. 

Parks ready to bloom in Humboldt

With the snow melted and the heat from the sunshine now here, the parks in Humboldt will soon be busy with activity.  

In the southeast corner of the city, work is almost complete to the upgrades at Bill Brecht Park. 

Leisure Services Director Mike Ulriksen says one additional component will soon be installed.  

He adds that some fencing work also needs to be done at the park.
