Westglen School in Didsbury is celebrating a 20-year-old partnership and friendship with the Japanese community.
Since 2005, students from Miki Town, Japan, have visited Westglen School for an educational and cultural exchange for junior high students.

New learning options coming to Chinook’s Edge
Chinook’s Edge School Division will be launching flexible learning opportunities for families.
"Starting in September 2025, families who are not currently registered in Chinook’s Edge will be able to enroll their children in the flexible learning program, supported by Chinook’s Edge teachers," stated Chinook's Edge.
The program is designed for Grades 1 to 8 students and offers families a choice between two learning pathways.

Former Didsbury music teacher recognized with royal honour
The King Charles III Coronation Medal has been awarded to Kirk Wassmer. Wassmer retired in June 2024 after 23 years as a band teacher at Didsbury High School.
Member of Parliament Earl Dreeshen nominated Wassmer for the award in the education category and presented it to him several weeks ago.
Chinook’s Edge students shine at central Alberta science fair
Two Chinook’s Edge students advanced to the national science fair after winning gold medals at the Central Alberta Rotary Science Fair at Red Deer Polytechnic on March 29.
Claire Friesen, a Grade 9 student from Cremona School, won a gold medal and “Best of Fair” in the Grade 7 to 12 category and was invited to the national science fair. Her project is called “What goes up must come down.” This is Friesen’s third invitation to attend the national science fair.
Report calls for stronger conservation efforts in Alberta
A recent report by the Canada Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) has given the Alberta government a D- for its efforts in protecting the province’s land and water.
The D- is an upgrade from the F it received from CPAWS back in 2021.
According to the reports, the governments of Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario received the lowest grades, ranging from D- to F.
What Didsbury’s 2025 operating budget means for residents and fire services
The Town of Didsbury Council has approved its 2025 operating budget, balancing $13,690,587 in estimated revenues and expenditures. The budget, passed during the Regular Council Meeting on March 26, 2025, follows the earlier approval of the 2025 Capital Budget on December 10, 2024.
