The Federal Government's Carbon Tax was quick to come up, and Kinew stressed the N.D.P is doing all it can, provincially, to alleviate the burden.
MPI Rates going down 5 per cent in 2024 after PUB decision
In a decision released Monday, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) has announced it has ordered Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) to implement an overall five per cent decrease to insurance premiums for the 2024/25 insurance year, effective April 1, 2024.
MPI had applied for no overall change in rates. The PUB's decision was partly because it expects the cost of claims to be lower in the coming years than MPI has forecast.
Snowfall warning issued with 10 to 20 cm expected for parts of southern Manitoba
The idea of seeing accumulating snow before the end of October is already tough to swallow for most, especially considering the above-average temperatures throughout the last several weeks, but Environment Canada issuing a snowfall warning for much of Southern Manitoba is, perhaps, just a little much for this time of year.
10 to 20 cm is expected for portions of southern Manitoba on Wednesday, with additional accumulations expected in the Red River Valley and Southeastern Manitoba Thursday.
Portage-Lisgar advance poll estimates released by Elections Canada
Elections Canada has released the estimated number of voters who cast a ballot during the four Advance Polling days held over the weekend.
According to the preliminary figures, 7,988 electors voted in the Portage-Lisgar by-election between Friday, June 9th, and Monday, June 12th.
The advance polls were open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

It's official... the ballot is set for the upcoming Portage-Lisgar by-election. Elections Canada released the confirmed candidates list Wednesday. Five people will be vying for the M.P. role, with all of them different names compared to the last general election in September 2021.

Moving, gravel and renovation projects all on the go in Rhineland
It's been months in the making, but the Municipality of Rhineland has started moving into the renovated former North American Box plant building in Plum Coulee.
"The Plum Coulee and Rhineland maintenance shops have now moved into the location on Railway Avenue," explained Reeve Don Wiebe. "What this means is the vacant buildings are now for sale, and council decided to put them up for public tender. The police offices, which will also be moving soon, as soon as the fiberoptic cable connection is there."

Powerful wind on Friday toppled a semi-trailer with a wind turbine blade
There's no doubt about it, it was a windy Friday afternoon in parts of southern Manitoba. Just how windy was it? So windy it overturned a semi-trailer hauling a wind turbine blade!
According to eyewitnesses and information shared on the Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services (ARES) Facebook page, the incident occurred mid-afternoon Friday on Highway 14, about 7kms east of Rosenfeld.
According to the Manitoba Ag Weather network, a peak wind gust of 55 km/h from the south was recorded in the Altona area.
