As five former Canadian world junior hockey players await a ruling in their sexual assault trial, legal experts say videos shown in court of the complainant saying she was OK with what had happened highlight a broader misunderstanding of consent and sexual assault law in Canada.
Two cellphone videos in which the woman says she’s “OK with this” and that “it was all consensual” were presented as evidence during the trial of Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube, and Callan Foote.
Conservative MPs publicly support Freedom Convoy organizers ahead of sentencing
Several Conservative MPs are criticizing the Crown's approach to prosecuting two key organizers of the Freedom Convoy protests, with the party's deputy leader calling it an act of "political vengeance."
Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were convicted of mischief in April for their roles in organizing the demonstration, which blockaded streets around Parliament Hill for more than three weeks in early 2022.
Barber was also convicted of counselling others to disobey a court order.
Minor football registration deadline inches closer
Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football (KMJMF) is reminding young football players that their registration is almost closed.
Boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13 need to be registered before the August 1 deadline. There are three age groups for the boys in U10, U12, and U14. While the Lady Outlaw is for girls between 11 and 13.
"We're sitting at about 171 kids right now, and we usually finish about 230. So we got a pretty good push here. In the last two weeks, a lot of people sign up late," said the president of KMJMF, Bryan Boys.
Air Quality Alert: Another smoke advisory is in effect
The City of Moose Jaw is once again under a special air quality statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Wildfire smoke is expected to drift into over the city and surrounding areas this evening and tonight and linger into Tuesday.
People more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Sask Festival of Words wraps with breakfast, candid romance panel, discussion of monsters
The 2025 Saskatchewan Festival of Words concluded Sunday morning at the Cosmo Seniors Centre with a relaxed breakfast and two final author panels: a candid, funny, and thoughtful panel on romance writing, and a discussion on confronting inner darknesses with authors K.J. Aiello, Brandon Reid, and John Elizabeth Stintzi.
Southern Saskatchewan hit with estimated 40 to 70 mm of rain
Parts of southern Saskatchewan received an estimated 40 to 70 millimetres of rain over the weekend, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
An Environment Canada station at Hazenmore registered 55 mm of rain between Saturday and Sunday, while the station at Shaunavon recorded 40 mm.
Meteorologist Crawford Luke said radar estimates showed 40 to 70 mm fell over the weekend along and south of Highway 15.
Dates removed for former MJPS officer’s disciplinary hearing
The disciplinary hearing for former Moose Jaw Police Service Supt. Taylor Mickleborough will be taking place later than originally scheduled.
The hearing was scheduled to begin July 24 to 25. However, those dates have now been removed from the Ministry of Justice’s website.
Dates are still scheduled for Aug. 27 to 29, Oct. 7 to 10, and Oct. 20 to 24. Times and locations are still be to announced.
Road and sidewalk on Fairford St. temporarily closed tomorrow
The City of Moose Jaw is reminding residents that there will be a temporary street and sidewalk closure tomorrow morning from 7 to 9 a.m.
A crane will be lifting equipment adjacent to the Hammond Building on the zero block of Fairford Street West. In doing so, the street will be closed to westbound traffic and the north sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians until the work is completed.
