Estevan is seeing a big system hit the southeast today with heavy snow expected to cover the area.

The Alberta Clipper coming in has had Environment Canada evens end out a snowfall warning, with their forecast expecting 15-20 cm.

Meteorologist Stephen Berg talks about the system, saying that we'll see that hit today before the clock strikes noon.

Five athletes from the Estevan Figure Skating Club delivered strong performances at the Skate Saskatchewan Prejuvenile and Juvenile Sectionals, held this past weekend in Rosetown. The event marked a pivotal competition in the skaters' season, providing a platform to showcase their talents and hard work.

Board member Janelle Gedak shared details about the competition, emphasizing its importance as a step further into the competitive season for many of the athletes.

Saskatchewan's conflict of interest commissioner has found Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill breached rules when a window company with family ties did business with the government three years ago. 

The report released Monday from commissioner Maurice Herauf says in 2021, Cockrill was an employee of Fortress Window and Doors and therefore was in a conflict when the company received nearly $180,000 in government contracts that year.

The company is owned by Cockrill’s in-laws and had done work for a public housing authority in North Battleford, west of Saskatoon. 

The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers is making an investment into a number of research options that will focus on weed management for pulse fields.

The Loewen family is leaning on the support of their community after a fire destroyed their home last weekend. Though it has been an incredibly difficult time for the family, they are grateful for the outpouring of help and love from friends, family, and the community. 

"Right now, I think we’re just taking it one day at a time," said Chantelle Loewen, expressing the uncertainty they face as they navigate this loss.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is taking some time to reflect after Chrystia Freeland's bombshell resignation, the natural resources minister said on Tuesday.

"The prime minister, as I understand it, a number of caucus colleagues have said that the prime minister has said that he will reflect on both the decision that minister Freeland made, but also what he's heard from members of his own caucus," Jonathan Wilkinson said.

"I think we all need to give him a little time to reflect, and I respect that fact that he's going to take some time to reflect."

With 2025 on the horizon people are looking back on the year and seeing what went well for the southeast.

In the political world, the province saw an exciting year with an election which tightened the Sask Party's margins over the province.

Estevan MLA and Deputy House Leader Lori Carr says that winning the election was a key moment for the government.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the southeast as a storm is set to hit the area tomorrow.

While no details were sent out with the warning, we do know that forecasts are calling for around 5-10cm, with some areas seeing up to 15cm.

Along with the snow, heavy winds are likely to blow that around and impact visibility across the area.

Environment Canada urges people to check the forecast often so they can have up-to-date information on the weather.

The binding arbitration process between the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) and the provincial government officially began on Monday, marking the latest chapter in a prolonged labour dispute. The proceedings, held in Saskatoon, are set to continue until Dec. 20.

The Midale Senior Mustangs team recently announced a new addition to their roster: former NHL defenseman Keaton Ellerby. Midale Mustangs head Coach and Team Manager, Dustin Graham, says they recruited Ellerby in the summer. 

“All through the off season we do a lot of recruiting. We know quite a few guys and that kind of rabbit holes into meeting more guys and we stumbled across a guy who was buddies with Keaton and he was looking to play some senior hockey. We got to him first and he agreed to come.”
