Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) is currently hosting its annual 2024 district meetings across Manitoba. They began in Arborg on Tuesday, November 12, and will wrap up in Swan River on Thursday, December 19.  

Jill Verwey, President of KAP says organizing and hosting the meetings is a requirement and part of their grassroots policy. 

SaskPower is celebrating 10 years of carbon capture at the Boundary Dam power station in Estevan.

The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility has captured over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide and prevented that from being emitted into the atmosphere.

The U18 AAA Estevan Bears faced a tough challenge over the weekend against the Swift Current Legionnaires, the same team the Bears defeated last year to secure a playoff spot.

In the first game, the Bears struggled and were shut out 9-0.

“The first game we came out fairly slow. Things started going sideways on us and it just started snowballing from there, and we never could really get it back on the rails,” said Jason Johnstone, assistant coach for the Bears.

The southeast is likely to get a good taste of winter soon as a Colorado low system is baring down on the area this weekend.

The system, expected to come through on Saturday, will see snowfall begin once the temperatures plunge overnight.

The family wishes to announce that John “Jack” Doty, late of Carlyle, SK passed away at the Moose Mountain Lodge, Carlyle, SK on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the age of 92 years.

Estevan's MLA is seeing herself in some new roles and some familiar ones as the provincial government announced their new cabinet following the provincial election.

Lori Carr is now the Minister of three departments - Rural and Remote Health, Mental Health and Addictions, and Seniors.

Carr says that she's ready to take on the roles for both Estevan as well as the entire province.

Prairie farmers should be on the lookout as a disease known to cause issues in a variety of crops is a key concern.

That's why experts are asking producers to keep a close eye out for the signs that the disease might be in their fields.

Voters are getting ready to hit the polls today after a month and a half of candidates pleading their case to the public. 13 candidates will be vying for a seat in council as the mayor or a councillor.

The City of Estevan has arranged a few places for the public to cast their ballot. A super poll will be set up at the Church of God on 1920 Wellock Road between 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Two drive-thru polling places will be set up during Election Day. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says the Canada carbon rebate for small businesses will be tax-free.

In a statement posted to X late Tuesday, Freeland clarified the parameters of the program after an advocacy group for small business raised concerns that the rebate would be a taxable benefit.

Dan Kelly, president and CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, posted on X soon after that post that he had received a call from Freeland, who offered "assurance" that the rebate would be tax-free.

Donald Trump's second administration is filling up with some of his most loyal supporters and many of the people landing top jobs have been critical of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and security at Canada's border.

One expert says there are not many Canadian allies, so far, in the president-elect's court.

"I don't see a whole lot of friends of Canada in there," said Fen Hampson, a professor of international affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa and co-chair of the Expert Group on Canada-U.S. Relations.
