The Royal Canadian Legion says a new partnership with e-commerce giant Amazon is helping boost its veterans' fund, and will hopefully expand its donor base in the digital world. 

Since the Oct. 25 launch of its Amazon.ca storefront, the legion says it has received nearly 10,000 orders for poppies. 

Online shoppers can order lapel poppies on Amazon in exchange for donations or buy items such as "We Remember" lawn signs, Remembrance Day pins and other accessories, with all proceeds going to the legion's Poppy Trust Fund for Canadian veterans and their families.

The Manitoba Country Music Awards are happening Sunday, and those behind the scenes are grateful to see local artists take centre stage.

Miles Trach, president of the Manitoba Country Music Association, says they've been trying to give Manitoba artists this platform for over a decade. This eventually led to the inaugural Manitoba Country Music Awards in 2015.

"It started about 15 years ago when I joined the board," explains Trach. "We were very much trying to rebuild our country music community here in Manitoba."

“I call it the Manitoba monster. It had 7 funnels that were kind of doing an egg beater effect.”

The Boissevain Border Kings, Killarney Shamrocks and Rivers Jets were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Skylar Canada and Carter Cowlthorp each had a goal and two assists as the Border Kings beat the MacGregor Wild 8-1. Ty Enns and Bryce Enns each had two goals and two assists as the Shamrocks downed the Souris Elks 12-2. Riley Lamb made 23 saves, and the Jets blanked the Neepawa Farmers 5-0.

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has struck in northern Yukon, but Natural Resources Canada says there have been no reports of damage and none would be expected.

The quake struck about 167 kilometres north of Keno, Yukon, and 519 kilometres from Whitehorse, just after noon Pacific Time at a depth of 27 kilometres.

Natural Resources Canada had initially reported a magnitude of 5.8 for the quake, and says tremors were felt in Keno, which has a population of about 20 people.

It's time for another episode of Made in Manitoba, and this weekend we're going country by celebrating the four nominations Jade Turner has received from the Manitoba Country Music Awards. The winners will be announced at an event this weekend in Winnipeg, and Jade will be competing in categories including Female Artist of the Year and Fans Choice.

The recognition is ahead of her new album "Breathe" being released in late January, with a number of singles already put out over the course of this year.

Wesley Penner, 85, of Winnipeg formerly of Landmark, passed away Friday, October 25th at Winnipeg. He is survived by 5 children, their mother Ruth, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings and their families. He was predeceased by 7 siblings. 
A memorial service for Wesley Penner will be held Sunday, December 1st at 3pm at Heartland Community Church, Landmark. Private burial has taken place at Prairie Rose Cemetery, Landmark. 

Funeral For:  George Froese 
Funeral Date: November 12, 2024 
George Froese, 95, of the rural Austin/Sidney area passed away Wednesday, November 6th at Gladstone. 
The funeral service for George Froese will be held Tuesday, November 12th at 1pm at Austin Evangelical Fellowship Church with burial at Edrans Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service. 
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

In a defensive battle against the Colorado Avalanche, Connor Hellebuyck shone brightly, notching his 40th career shutout to propel the Winnipeg Jets to a 1-0 victory on home ice Thursday night.

The shutout was a milestone for Hellebuyck and extended his impressive streak to 133:09 minutes of shutout hockey, following his previous start against Tampa Bay.

Gabe Vilardi opened the scoring for Winnipeg just 1:06 into the game. He finished off a quick odd-man rush with a pass from Mark Scheifele, marking his fifth goal in six games.
