The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will host the CFL’s West Division final. Sergio Castillo kicked a walk-off 51-yard field goal to lift Winnipeg past the Montreal Alouettes 28-27. Zach Collaros threw for 331 yards and completed a nine-yard touchdown pass to Nic Demski as the Bombers clinched first place in the division with an 11-7 record. The B.C. Lions will meet the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina next Saturday in the division semifinal.
Canadian consensus on immigration under threat, but not gone: immigration minister
Canada's long-held consensus on immigration is under threat but has not disappeared, the immigration minister said in an interview after announcing a major cut to the number of newcomers to Canada.
On Thursday, Immigration Minister Marc Miller and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced plans to slash Canada's immigration targets by 20 per cent next year and admitted the Liberal government did not get the balance right after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minnie Reimer, 97, of Steinbach passed away Wednesday, October 23rd at Resthaven Nursing Home. She is survived by 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and their families. She was predeceased by 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
The celebration of life for Minnie Reimer will be held Saturday, November 2nd at 4pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with family burial prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Group.

Canada condemns 'horrifying' violence in Haiti as political transition challenged
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Friday that Canada strongly condemns a new surge of "horrifying violence" perpetrated by gangs in Haiti.
Gang violence has increased in the Caribbean nation in recent weeks and the UN says gangs now control 85 per cent of the capital city of Port-au-Prince.
Kenya is leading a multinational security mission to restore order after gangs drove out the former prime minister with targeted attacks earlier this year.
A transition council is now leading the nation, with the goal of holding elections next year.

Holiday Train treks through Westman December 5 & 6
The Canadian-Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train will be touring through Canada and the United States from November 21 to December 20th, raising money, food and awareness to support foodbanks across North America.
The Holiday Train features live entertainment with bands playing at each of their stops from the beautifully decorated train's stage. CPKC donates to the local food bank at each stop and encourages everyone in attendance to make a monetary or heart-healthy food donation.

Strat Plan in Strategic Vision and Green Initiatives: RM of Oakview’s Path Forward
The RM of Oakview will be looking at their 5-year Strat Plan in the next few months with steps already taken to get that ball rolling.
Chief Administrative Officer, Mark Humphries, says they're bringing a facilitator into the circle in December to collaborate on their new strategic plan.
"We're eagerly going into strategic planning sessions much like all rural RM's, money is tight and we're always trying to keep the taxes down but keep the RM moving forward," he says. "So, this Strat Plan should help us greatly with those decisions going forward."

The Tiger Hills Hockey League’s 2024-25 season got underway Friday night. Jeremy Johnson had two goals and an assist in the Virden Oil Kings 5-2 victory over Boissevain. Tanner Koroscil, Joel Cosens and Devon LeBlanc also scored for the Oil Kings. Tyler Dittmer and David Robertson replied for the Border Kings. Justin Minoletti scored twice to lead MacGregor past Carberry 4-1. Drew Anderson and Braden Nicoll also scored for the Wild. Nate Robson had the lone goal for the Plainsmen.
