Airdrie residents who have weekend travel plans may want to monitor the weather closely. The area is under a snowfall warning, and the largest dump of snow is expected Saturday.

While snow is expected to begin falling across Alberta today, with five to 10 centimetres likely by Saturday morning, by tomorrow, snowfall will intensify, potentially accumulating 10 to 15 centimetres.

Have your say on possible Rocky View County pet bylaw changes

Rocky View County (RVC) is looking into possible changes to its Animal Control Bylaw.

According to RVC, the primary focus of this bylaw is to ensure animals are kept under control and do not engage in nuisance behaviour towards neighbouring properties.

Lorraine Wesley, manager of enforcement services, talked about the changes they are thinking about implementing.

"Administration is looking at including a leashing provision and looking at cat licensing."

Red Deer couple wins $100,000

Charlene Nielson and Lance Aloisio are $100,000 richer, after checking their Western 649 ticket and Extra from the Oct. 2 draw.  

Nielson said she took the ticket to the cashier, stunned, and asked her to check it again.  

“When I realized it was real, I wanted to tell someone,” she said. “Then I realized I’d left my cell phone at home, so I couldn’t call anyone to tell them.”   

Man charged after attempting to stab police officer

A 28-year-old male is facing charges after attempting to assault an officer in Point Douglas. 

On Nov. 21, at 4:22 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a call in regards to an adult male who was armed with a firearm in Point Douglas. 

Members of the Central, North, and East District General Patrol, Tactical Support Unit (TST), and K9 Unit responded to the report. The Major Crimes Unit was in the area due to an unrelated matter and noticed a male suspect matching the description of the suspect in the rear lane of the first 100 block of Lorne Avenue. 

Poaching incident in Rumsey Natural Area under investigation

Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES) is currently investigating a suspected poaching incident involving bull elk in the southeast corner of Rumsey Natural Area.

No injuries in school bus crash in Mitchell

The Chief for the Hanover Fire Department says there were no physical injuries in a crash involving a school bus Thursday morning.

Paul Wiebe says they were called out shortly after 10 am to Centre Street in Mitchell following a crash between a passenger vehicle and school bus.

According to Hanover School Division, there were no children on the bus at the time of the crash. 

Also on Thursday, Wiebe says they were called to a two-vehicle crash along Provincial Road 216, at Road 31 North, south of Kleefeld. It happened shortly after 5 pm.

Mountain View County site chosen for first provincial lithium facility

With Mountain View County's approval, E3 Lithium Ltd. has secured a location for its Clearwater Project. The County has granted E3 Lithium an option to acquire land at the former Dyck Gravel Pit, approximately 18 kilometres east of the County Office.

This land will serve as the site for E3 Lithium’s central processing facility, which is poised to be the first commercial lithium production facility in Western Canada.

Busy morning for Hanover Fire Department, including crash involving cows

One person was taken to hospital early Friday morning, following a highway crash south of Steinbach involving two cows. 

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says their crews were called to the scene shortly after 5 am. It happened along Highway 12, just south of Road 32 North, or Ridge Road.

Wiebe says there were two occupants in the vehicle. The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

According to Wiebe, both cows died in the crash. Wiebe says they are investigating where the cows came from.
