Driver hospitalized after SUV and semi collide near Gimli
A serious two-vehicle crash near Gimli on Wednesday afternoon has left one driver in hospital and another shaken but uninjured.
On September 10, around 2:50 p.m., Gimli RCMP were called to the intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 229 after an SUV and a semi-truck collided.
According to the RCMP, the SUV had been seen earlier driving erratically north on Highway 9 in the RM of St. Andrews. Less than an hour later, that same SUV was involved in the crash.
Police investigate Richmond West crash involving van and school bus
One person has been taken to the hospital after a collision between a vehicle and a school bus on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 3:26 on September 10, the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a collision in the 1-99 block of Keslar Road in Richmond West.
Along with the West District General Patrol, members of the Traffic Division quickly attended and ensured the students were safe. The school bus did not sustain significant damage.

Power restored following outage in southeast

Hundreds of Manitobans have had their power restored sooner than expected after a devastating wildfire season.
Several areas of the province, including Leaf Rapids, Mathias Colomb Cree Nation (Pukatawagan), and O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation/South Indian Lake were restored on September 9 and 10. While Marcel Colomb First Nation and Lynn Lake are being re-energized on Thursday.
The power restoration comes two to four weeks sooner than expected because of the hard work from the hundreds of Manitoba Hydro employees, contractors, and mutual aid partner SaskPower.

With a provincewide teachers strike looming, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says their union has a stark choice between heftier pay hikes and more teachers.
Smith suggests they can have one or the other, but they can’t have both.
Smith made the comments today to reporters when asked about stalled contract talks between her government and the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the day after the union set a strike date of Oct. 6.
Alberta has offered wage hikes starting at 12 per cent over four years, with a promise to hire 3,000 teachers over three years.
Langdon's final movie night of the season is set
The Langdon Community Association, in partnership with the Langdon Community Library, is hosting its final movie night of the season.
The event will take place Friday (Sept. 12) at 8 p.m. in Langdon Park, behind the Qualico Resource Centre and the Fieldhouse.
The featured film is the new Minecraft movie.
Families are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets, and bug spray.

A new tri-municipal partnership has been launched to enhance collaboration between the City of Lacombe, Lacombe County, and the Town of Blackfalds.
The North Blindman River Tri-Municipal Collaborative (NBRTC) was formally established after the Intermunicipal Development Plan and Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework Committee, which includes members from all three municipalities, recommended creating a regional body to expand cooperation.

Manitobans will see improvements to more than 30 recreational trails across the province thanks to more than $592,000 in funding from the Manitoba government and Trails Manitoba, Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes announced today.
Applications open for Saskatchewan School Playground Grant Program
Saskatchewan schools and parent groups can now apply for funding to create safe, accessible playgrounds, with up to $50,000 in matching grants available per project.
The School Playground Equipment Grant Program supports school-operated properties across the province and can be used to build new playgrounds, add equipment, or replace components on existing structures. Applications opened yesterday and will remain open until Feb. 25, 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is administered in partnership with the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA).
