Return to pre-outage prices slow, but steady, says petroleum analyst
The BP refinery outage in Whiting, Ind., is now in the rear-view mirror, and while a return to pre-outage prices has been slower than expected, fuel costs are trending downward across the Prairies.

Farmers urged to follow harvest safety tips, following baler fire in Vulcan County
Vulcan County Regional Fire Services responded to a baler fire that quickly spread into a grass fire on Tuesday (Sept. 9).
Fire crews from Stations 19, 20, 21, and 27 responded to the fire, which was threatening nearby structures.
No structures in the area were heavily damaged due to the quick response from emergency crews.
Herbert Fire Department raising money through 50/50
The Herbert Fire Department is raising money with a 50/50 raffle.
People can purchase their tickets at the Herbert Pioneer Co-op location, the Herbert Town Office, and request them from any Herbert fire Department Member. Tickets are just $10 each.
Brad Cornelson, fire chief for the Herbert Fire Department, is happy to be able to host this raffle again for the first time in many years.
"It's been a few years," said Cornelson. "It's going back into the fire department for things like equipment and tools."

The flea beetle is a common pest for farmers and gardeners alike in this corner of the province. However, there is more to the species than meets the eye. Provincial Insect and Vertebrate Pest Management Specialist for the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. James Tansey, says that the term “flea beetle” covers approximately 5,000 species worldwide, in a subfamily called the Alticinae.
Wheatland Library invites adults to flex their storytelling skills
Adults across the Wheatland Regional Library system are being encouraged to unleash their creativity through a region-wide short story competition.
The contest, which runs from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, is open to anyone 18 or older living in the Wheatland region. Entries must be original, titled stories of no more than 2,000 words, typed and double-spaced.
A panel of Saskatchewan authors will judge the submissions, including University of Saskatchewan professor and author Dwayne Brenna, Saskatoon memoirist Marilyn Frey, and short story writer and librarian Theressa Slind.

Update: Crossfield issues boil water advisory after service disruption
The Town of Crossfield says a boil water advisory remains in effect, even as water restrictions have been eased back to the year-round Level 1 after repairs to a water main break.
In a Facebook update on Friday, the town said the break has been repaired and the system is back in service. It said Level 2 restrictions have now been lifted, with residents returning to the standard Level 1 rules that limit outside watering to even-numbered addresses on even calendar days and odd-numbered addresses on odd days.
Cochrane on track for $1.1M surplus
Cochrane is on pace to finish 2025 with an anticipated surplus of about $1.1 million, according to the town’s second-quarter financial update.
Alvin Allim, the town’s chief financial officer, presented the report to council this week, covering the first six months of the year ending June 30. The update highlighted both operational and capital performance, along with a forecast for year-end.
Wire theft at work sites in RM of Riverside
Police are looking into thefts at two local work sites.
Swift Current Rural RCMP are investigating thefts at sites in the RM of Riverside between August 5 and September 6.
Police say an unknown individual damaged fences at the sites and stole wire.
