Sunny Saturday in Marysburg produces a pair of wins for the Royals

It was a solid Saturday outing for the Marysburg Royals at home as they picked up a pair of wins over the Saskatoon River Pirates. River Pirates' pitcher Aiden Leibrecht gave the Royals a tough time at the plate in the first innings of the opener, putting the Royals in a four-run hole. But the seasoned bats of the Blue found their groove and overtook their Saskatoon opposition, winning 6-4.  

Thomas Lessmesiter got the win. A couple errors aided in the comeback, plus hits by Cole Bauml and Nick Anderson sealed the deal.  

Canada Cup runs in the family for the Gosselin brothers

They may be chasing different dreams, but these two brothers share one destination—Team Saskatchewan at the Canada Cup. Competing in separate sports, their paths may have diverged, but their pride in their roots remains united. 

Easton Gosselin will be a member of Team Saskatchewan this week in Antigonish, Nova Scotia competing in the Football Canada Cup. 

Later this month, his brother Carson will be travelling to Nova Scotia as part of Saskatchewan’s entry into the Volleyball version of the Canada Cup. 

From local fields to national whistles: Stephen Gray to officiate at Football Canada Cup

Humboldt will not only be represented by a player at the Football Canada Cup this week, but will be present on the officiating crew 

Stephen Gray will be in Antigonish, Nova Scotia as part of the officiating crew throughout the week.  

He said the selection process for officials began in March when an application was sent to the registered officials. Along with a letter of recommendation, Gray sent in his application and found out in mid-April that he was selected as part of the officiating crew.  

Bulldogs wrap up successful softball season at Saskatoon provincials

The U13A Estevan Bulldogs capped off a standout season with a strong showing at Provincials this past weekend in Saskatoon, finishing as one of the top eight teams in Saskatchewan.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a tough loss to the White Butte Storm but quickly bounced back. They defeated the Regina Saints in a dominant 16-2 win, followed by a close 9-7 victory over the Saskatoon Laser. They closed out the round robin with a 3-1 win against the Saskatoon Raider.

The Regina Red Sox outscored the Moose Jaw Miller Express 9-7 in Regina last night in Western Canadian Baseball League action. Matthew Fox and hometown boy Brady Bye hit home runs for Regina. Tanner Degrazia went 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI for Moose Jaw. The Miller Express have today off and will host Weyburn Beavers tomorrow.

In other WCBL east division action yesterday, the Saskatoon Berries beat Swift Current 11-6.

Riders unable to tame Stampeders in delayed kickoff at Mosaic Stadium

The Saskatchewan Roughriders put up a stinker on Saturday, losing 24-10 to the Calgary Stampeders for their first loss of the season.

Originally scheduled for Friday Night Football, after a long wait for everyone involved the Week 6 opener was moved to Saturday after smoky conditions forced the game to be delayed. The league did their best to play with the latest attempts at kicking the game off going through 11:00 PM Friday, to no avail.

Manitoba High School Rodeo Association coming off a strong year into a bright future

It was another good year for the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association and President Trevor Gompf is quite happy with where things are and excited for where they're going.

Looking back, there's a highlight in particular that Gompf is proud of. "The last few years, our association has hosted the Canadian High School Rodeo Association Finals. That's where the top six in the high school and top five in the junior high in each province come to Brandon for the Canadian Finals."
