5 Albertans in Saddle Bronc kicked off Pool C in top form yesterday at the Calgary Stampede
The Calgary Stampede had Albertans rooting for five of the 10 Saddle Bronc riders as Pool C kicked off Thursday.
The Hay brothers from Wildwood, AB, are always top contenders, having both won the Calgary Stampede before.
Dawson Hay took the top score of 91.50 as brother Logan finished in 3rd with a score of 88.00.
Ben Anderson (Rocky Mountain House, AB) scored an 84.00 on a re-ride as Quinten Taylor (Nanton, AB) scored an 83.50 and Millarville's Layton Green came in 10th with a score of 80.50.
High River's Jason Glass had the fastest time of the night at the Rangeland Derby
Thursday night was a good one for High River's Jason Glass.
The defending Rangeland Derby champion at the Calgary Stampede had a penalty-free heat and finished with the top time of the night.
Glass' checkered wagon was the only one to crack the 1:13 mark with a time of 1:12.15.
The first-place finish moves him into the coveted 3rd place in the aggregate.
Only the top 3 in the aggregate after Saturday night's races will go to the final heat on Championship Sunday.
There are no semi-final heats this year.

They blew a 4-4 game wide-open with 8 runs in the 7th and the Moose Jaw Miller Express came away with a 19-5 win over the Mavericks in Medicine Hat last night. The Millers pounded the Mavericks pitchers for 23 hits including two home runs - one from Austin Gurney and another from Tanner DeGrazia. The Millers have tonight off. They'll play in Medicine Hat again tomorrow night.
Toronto Blue Jays had Thursday off. They'll play the Athletics in Sacramento tonight.
Gunslingers at high noon: Roughriders and Stampeders duel tonight
It will be a Western showdown with first place in the division on the line at Mosaic Stadium on Friday night when the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0) host the Calgary Stampeders (3-1).

A vintage ride from Eatonia's Dakota Buttar at the Calgary Stampede on Thursday vaulted him into first place in Pool C of the bull riding competition with two rides still left to go.
Going eight seconds on OLS Tubs Big River, Buttar scored an 85.50 to just edge second place finisher Luke Mackey's score of 85.00. The first-place performance also came with a nice $7,750 payout.
Unity hosting U15 'B' North softball provincials
Unity is hosting provincial softball this weekend, the first of three provincial ball tournaments taking place in the West Central community this summer.
Eleven teams are in attendance for the U15 'B' North bracket, including three from the region, Kindersley and Macklin joining the host Unity Panthers.
Cochrane football talent heads to nationals with Team Alberta
Cochrane’s Tyler Clazie is bound for the national football stage with Team Alberta.
The Cobra receiver is part of Team Alberta’s U18 lineup heading to Antigonish to chase gold in the Football Canada Cup.
Alberta kicks off the tournament on July 14 against Manitoba.
Fellow Cobra Evan Samoleski made the squad as a defensive back but will miss the action due to injury.
Team Alberta took home bronze last year, with three Cobras in the mix.
Rage wrapping up regular season with a pair of home games
The Rocky View Rage Jr. B Tier II squad is gearing up for a high-stakes home stand to close out the regular season, and they’re hungry for a statement finish.
They’ll battle the Strathmore Venom on Saturday, then clash with the powerhouse Southern Alberta Chaos--the top team in the Cindy Garant South Divisionon Sunday.
Both games hit the floor at 2 p.m. in Totem One at the SLS Centre.
The Rage have struggled this season after logging their best ever last year.
They're 5-9 heading into the weekend.
