Soccer in Estevan has had a good run over the spring, with a few teams placing well in events over the last couple of months. That includes championship cups, provincials, and more, which saw Estevan teams compete hard for a chance at the title.

Estevan Youth Soccer's Vice President, Derek Mercer, talks about some of the recent successes for the U13 Estevan soccer team.

Hanover Kickers vs MGM Sher-E-Punjab SC, turned out to be a scrappy affair.

Both teams were evenly matched and both teams managed to hold stretches of offensive possession. 

The Kickers opened up the scoring in the 20th minute, from a shot by Zach Friesen.

The 1st half would end with Kickers leading 1-0.

In the 2nd half started to show fatigue on both sides.

Two Swift Current Comprehensive High School athletes have made Saskatchewan's U23 Canada Summer Games track team.

Carter Tuplin and Rowan Reimer will both compete in the 400m hurdles.

Tuplin was recently named the SCCHS male Outstanding Graduating Athlete of the Year, while Reimer received the male Athletic Leadership Award.

Both reflected on track when thinking about the highlights of their high school athletic careers.

The Weyburn Beavers capped off their homestand in dramatic fashion Friday night, taking down the Sylvan Lake Gulls 10-4 at Tom Laing Park in front of a lively home crowd.

After falling to the Gulls by a score of 7-1 the night before, the Beavers responded with energy and determination, something head coach Cam Williams was proud to see.

“Yeah, I think the guys really showed up to play,” said Williams. “It was a tough night last night… I think we responded really well and had a lot of energy and a good kind of bulldog attitude.”

Soccer players are descending on Estevan this weekend with teams from across the southeast in the city for the annual soccerfest. The event will see teams ranging from U9 all the way up to U17 competing on the field in Estevan.

A lot of turnover, but some impressive new faces at the Swift Current Comp. Colts football spring camp.

"Really, really athletic," said Colts Offensive Coordinator Marcus Kourie. "We've got to come a long ways football IQ-wise, but athletic. We have a lot of athletes that if you put the ball in their hands they're going to do something really, really special."

Some major changes on the offensive side of the ball include Nate Siemens potentially taking over at quarterback.

The Okotoks Dawgs have announced that Friday's (June 20) game against the Brooks Bombers has been postponed.

The change was attributed to the weekend forecast, with a rainfall warning currently in effect in Foothills County.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are in Toronto getting prepared for a 'Friday Night Football' matchup against the 0-2 Argonauts, kickoff set for 5:30 PM.

The Riders haven't lost this season. The first two weeks saw the green and white beat Ottawa in the home opener, and then Hamilton in Week 2 in Saskatchewan's first game on the road this season. Now the Roughriders will be looking to complete the early season eastern sweep this week against the defending champion Argos and move to 3-0.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express’s win streak is now at four games after a 10–4 victory over the Swift Current 57s on Thursday night.

Moose Jaw jumped out to a 6–0 lead after three and a half innings.

In the first inning, Thomas Soto opened the scoring with a solo home run. Eduardo Saenz followed with a solo shot of his own. Diego Canuelas drew a walk with the bases loaded, bringing Tanner DeGrazia home from third to make it 3–0.

The PCI Trojans boys soccer team has wrapped up an undefeated season with a 1-0 win over the Oak Park Raiders, securing the WWAC Tier 2 Varsity AAAA Championship on June 12.

A fitting finish for graduating seniors

Grade 12 students Cade Friesen and Owen Kristoff have both been with the program for four years and say the win capped off their high school careers perfectly.

“We've gone to the championship twice, my Grade 9 and 10 year, and then last year we had some problems... so we didn't go to championship,” Kristoff says.
