ICYMI: A ray of hope for the Aces to remain in the SEMHL

The Ste. Anne Aces continue to do what they can to remain in the Southeast Manitoba Hockey League, and after raising concerns to Hockey Manitoba, a re-vote has been ordered. 

In an email from Hockey Manitoba, "(Ste. Anne) brought up concerns regarding the voting process and surrounding circumstances that were used to remove them from the SEMHL, and they are contesting that the SEMHL By-Laws and Regulations do not identify a clear process to remove a team from competition."

ICYMI: Sensational athlete Shearer dominating from the ice to the diamond and from the court to the track

Through hard work and dedication, star athlete Charlie Shearer has dominated multiple sports for years and the 17-year-old is not stopping any time soon.

Calling Shearer a multi-sport athlete might be an undersell. "I play AAA softball, AAA hockey, high school softball, I play school volleyball and basketball, I was on the school golf team this year, I'm into cross country as well as track and field. Plus, I'm an avid hunter."

ICYMI: Morden Eagles U14 winning and having a lot of fun doing it

The U14 Morden Eagles have had a great season filled with wins, laughs and memories, all of which has been cherished by player Lyann Fochtberger, who says this year has been very special. 

Before becoming a member of the Eagles, Fochtberger recalls what it was like starting to play soccer. "I started, I think it was two years ago, I started playing in a beginning league, that's where I started. I started to enjoy the sport and I wanted to continue playing soccer. I played there again and I also started to train more. Somehow, I got into the Morden Eagles club."

Wolverines put up a good fight in loss to Predators

Down 8-1 to the league leading Prince Albert Predators with 5:56 to go in the first period, the Swift Current Wolverines could have easily thrown in the towel.

Instead, they battled back to within a goal in the third period before eventually falling 16-12 in their final regular season game on the junior Prairie Gold Lacrosse League schedule.

"I thought it was good the way the boys didn't give up and came back," said Brock Smith of the Wolverines. "Ran it right back to them and they got scared in the end, so it felt good."

57's fall in series opener with Moose Jaw

Casey Prychak hit his first home run of the season, but the Swift Current 57's fell 16-6 to the Moose Jaw Miller Express in WCBL action last night.

It was the first of four straight games between the two clubs.

The 57's managed 10 hits and 6 runs in the game but couldn't keep Moose Jaw's offence in check.

William Edwards led the way for the Millar Express with two home runs in their victory.

They meet again tonight at Mitchell Field.

First pitch is 7:05 PM.

Wolverines crush Chaos, host Prince Albert tonight

Brady Simpson and Shane Cornelson each had hat tricks as the Swift Current Wolverines blew the Regina Chaos out 14-5 last night.

Simpson added 4 assists to his 3 goals for a 7-point night. 

Grady Henderson had 2 goals and 3 assists for Swift Current in the win, while Isaac Froese added 2 goals and 2 assists.

Swift Current wraps up their regular season schedule tonight against the league-leading Prince Albert Predators.

Prince Albert has yet to lose in 8 games this season.

Southeast Saskatchewan racers take home titles from Tougher Than Dirt Tour

A pair of Southeast Saskatchewan drivers have taken home championship titles following wins during the Tougher Than Dirt Tour over six nights of racing. The tour takes place on five different American tracks and another race here at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

This year's winners are Leevi Runge and Diezel Raynard, both of whom hail from Lampman. The two winning the title make it the first time in the tour's 10-year history that both winners hail from Saskatchewan.
