Dogs drop Game 5 in Steinbach
The Steinbach Pistons staved off elimination with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Portage Terriers on March 29. The game saw Portage go 0/5 on the powerplay, but killing off all four penalties they were assessed.
Steinbach would score a pair of goals near the mid-way point of the first period, as the Terriers got trapped inside their defensive zone a couple of times in succession, giving the Pistons a 2-0 lead to end the first frame.
Canada 2-0 after Day 1 of world championship
It was a perfect Day 1 at the BKT World Men's Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Centre for Team Canada.
After downing Japan in the opening draw, Canada picked up a 7-5 win over Germany.
Canada looked like they were going to cruise to a victory until a missed shot led to Germany scoring three in the ninth end.
"We were in control of the whole game really, maybe called the wrong shot, wrong weight choice on my last one in nine, just rip the back one and we are probably shaking hands," said Canada skip Brad Jacobs.
Canada comes away with a win to open BKT World Men's Curling Championship
The BKT World Men’s Curling Championship got underway this afternoon at a near sold-old Temple Gardens Centre with Team Canada coming away with a 7-3 win over Japan.
The turning put was in the sixth end as Canada took advantage of a couple of missed shots by Japan to pick up three points, while mostly keeping the Japanese to single points without the hammer.
Klippers facing must-win game in Melfort
The Kindersley Jr. Klippers will be looking to build off their 3-2 overtime win in Game 4 Wednesday, facing a must-win situation Saturday night against the Melfort Mustangs to stay alive in the SJHL playoffs and send the series back to Kindersley.
The Klippers went down 3-0 in the series after they lost the first two games in Melfort last weekend and then lost by one goal in Game 3 on Tuesday. After a slow start Wednesday in Game 4, the team battled back in the third period and overtime to get back in the series, Kindersley's first playoff win since 2019, also against Melfort.

The MJHL Quarter-Finals heated up as the Portage Terriers edged out the Steinbach Pistons 4-3 in a thrilling double-overtime win in front of 1,013 at Stride Place, taking a commanding 3-1 series lead.
Terriers add to series lead with 4-3 Double OT victory

The Portage Terriers came from behind Friday night to beat the Steinbach Pistons 4-3 in double overtime. The Dogs now have a 3-1 series lead with a chance to close things out on Saturday night in Steinbach.
The Pistons came out of the gate hungry in the first period and drew two power play opportunities but were unable to capitalize. They had seven shots on Terrier goalie Mitchell Kathler before Portage was able to register one. The game stayed 0-0 after 1.
Clippers champions of the HTJHL
The Niverville Clippers capped off an incredible season by hoisting the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League championship trophy for the first time in 31 years.
"It's crazy," said Head Coach Tyler Anderson, the day after the team won it all. "I'm sitting here having my coffee and I can't believe we did it. It's an unbelievable feeling."
Teen driver arrested after collision in Portage
Last week, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of 8th Ave. W and 9th St. NW. The incident, which was reported to the RCMP around 4:00 pm on March 19th, stated a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, and led to the crash.
Several occupants of the offending vehicle fled immediately after the collision. However, the driver, a 15-year-old resident, returned to the scene shortly after and was promptly arrested by the RCMP for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
Shamrocks champions of the THHL
The Killarney Shamrocks are champions of the Tiger Hills Hockey League.
After falling in game three, the Shamrocks responded with a game four win on the road to capture the league title three games to one.
"It feels pretty good," Killarney goalie Brian Archibald said with smile when asked what it was like waking up Friday morning as a champion.
Nighthawks turn tables, use third period goal to even series 2-2
After games one and three where it was the Winkler Flyers scoring in the third period to eventually win, Thursday night saw the Niverville Nighthawks steal a page from that book and even up the series with a thrilling 3-2 win at the CRRC.
As has been the norm in the series, both teams stood toe-to-toe and knew if they wanted to deliver a punch, they'd have to take one.
Three minutes into the game, the teams exchanged power play chances and while the Flyers failed, the Nighthawks did not.
