Sylvan Lake Wranglers win HJHL championship

The Okotoks Bisons' streak as Heritage Junior Hockey League champions has come to an end.

A 2-1 Sylvan Lake win at the Murray Arena on Thursday saw the Wranglers reclaim the title for the first time in 15 years.

Game 4, despite being the lowest scoring of the final series, saw the most shots on goal, with the Wranglers firing 29 attempts at Bisons netminder Connor White, and the Herd pelting visiting goalie Kaden Toussaint with 46 shots.

The Regina Pat Canadians completed a three-game sweep of the Moose Jaw Winmar Warriors in the Sask Male Triple "A" championship final.

The Pat Canadians beat Moose Jaw 3-1 last night, earning a spot in the Western Canadian Regional playdowns in Kenora, Ontario next week.

Curling takes centre stage at Moose Jaw's Temple Gardens Centre this weekend with the BKT World Men's Curling Championship getting underway. Team Canada opens up against Japan tomorrow afternoon.

Estevan Minor Baseball President "disappointed" that city loans aren't being cancelled

At the latest Estevan City Council meeting, they rejected a request from Estevan Minor Baseball to cancel $33,000 in loans. Those were used to improve the baseball diamonds in a few areas over the past couple of years.

The first loan was for $30,000 for Turf Tenders, a southeast lawn care company, which saw a 50 per cent cost-sharing agreement with the city. EMB agreed to pay back $15,000 over the course of five years with annual $3,000 payments, beginning in 2024.

Gopher One, Ace Hole, and Scared Hitless win SCMVL titles

The Swift Current Mixed Volleyball League wrapped up earlier this week with three teams taking home top honours.

Elite Ag Gopher One downed the Bump Pirates 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-19 to claim the competitive division's title.

It took five sets in the intermediate division to crown a champion, as Ace Hole knocked off 2 Bump Chumps.

AAA Warriors swept by Pat Canadians in league final

The Regina Pat Canadians are Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League champions.

In front of a sold out crowd at the Co-operator Arena, the Pat Canadians, completed the sweep of Winmar AAA Moose Jaw Warriors winning 3-1.

Maddox Surkan opened scoring for the Pat Canadians midway through the first period, which was quickly followed up by goal by Reid Bechard.

Gage Nagel got the Warriors on the scoreboard with a power play goal in the second.

Over half way through the third period, Eli Johnson scored the game winner for the Pat Canadians while on the power play.
