The Pembina Valley Hawks swept a home-and-home with the Kenora Thistles this past weekend. Head coach Jeff Andrews will join Clayton Dreger on the Hawks Report which airs Mondays at 5:15 p.m. on CFAM Radio 950.
Gold Wings soar to victory, while U18 AA Wings face challenges
It was a busy weekend of hockey for Weyburn teams. Here is a look at how some of the teams did.
U18 AA
The U18 AA John Hulbert Construction Wings were at home on the weekend for a pair of games against the Sask East Oilers. The first game was Saturday afternoon, and the Oilers would come out on top in a close contest, winning 3-1.
U18 AAA Gold Wings earn three points in Swift Current
The U18 AAA Weyburn Gold Wings took to the road on the weekend, heading to Swift Current for a pair of games against the Wildcats. The Gold Wings would come home from the trip with three points, after winning one game in a shootout and losing the second in overtime.
SWAC Volleyball Update
Playoffs are now set in the Senior SWAC Volleyball leagues.
The senior girls' playoffs start on Tuesday with Frontier hosting the championship bracket. Frontier is the top seed and will face Herbert, while Vanguard goes up against Shaunavon. The first and third place matches will follow.
Consul hosts the consolation playoffs with the hosts, Maple Creek and Gull Lake playing a round robin.
Canada unbeaten on Sunday at Pan Continental Curling Championships
Canada is undefeated at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Lacombe.
Brad Gushue opened the tournament with a 10-3 win over Korea on Sunday and followed that up with a 17-1 win over Chinese Taipei in the late draw.
Rachel Homan is off to a 1-0 start after beating the United States 9-2.
Homan will take on Chinese Taipei at 9 a.m. this morning and will wrap up the day at 7 p.m. against China.
Gushue's lone game today is against New Zealand at 2 p.m.
All games take place at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex in Lacombe.
Sports Update - Monday, October 29th
The Westman Wildcats are riding a four-game win streak. Ivy Perkin, Lucy Waldner and Jaedyn Hoemsen did the goal scoring and Indigo Stone made 31 saves as Westman defeated the defending champion Winnipeg Ice 3-1 Sunday at Hockey for All Centre. The Wildcats (6-2) are tied with the Eastman Selects for first place in the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League.
Sports Update - Monday, October 29th
Kali Remillard and Sophia Heidinger scored two goals each in the Eastman Selects 5-1 victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks Sunday in Niverville. Isabelle Carriere also scored for the Selects (6-1) who received a 27-save performance from Addison Tomes. Eastman is tied with the Westman Wildcats for first place in the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League.
Sports Round-Up: Monday, October 28
The winless skid is now at 7 games and the Moose Jaw Warriors have dropped to last in the WHL standings. The Warriors were shutout 6-0 in Kelowna Friday, and dropped a 6-4 decision to the Blazers in Kamloops on Saturday. The Warriors will play the Cougars in Prince George tomorrow.
In Junior C hockey, the Caronport Aviators battled to a 6-6 tie with the Emerald Park Wizards in their first game of the season on Saturday.
In Kinsmen Minor Football, the MJ Raiders won the U14 City Championship over the weekend with a 35-6 win over the Weyburn Falcons.
Sports Update - Monday, October 29th
Ryler Gates made 28 saves in the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-1 victory over the Kenora Thistles. Haiden Friesen, Carson Hiebert, Ryder Wolfe and Casey Magarrell did the goal scoring for the Hawks who completed a weekend home-and-home sweep. Pembina Valley shaded the Thistles 3-2 on Saturday in Kenora.
The Pembina Valley Hawks dropped a 5-1 decision to the Eastman Selects. Casey O'Brien scored the lone goal for the Hawks with 6:59 remaining in the third period. Pembina Valley netminder Kasia Rakowski made 31 saves.
Oilers split back-to-backs with Bucks
For the second time this season, the Okotoks Oilers and the Cranbrook Bucks played a home-and-home series and split the back-to-back games over the weekend.
When the BCHL Interior Division rivals met in September, it was the home teams coming away with the win. In this weekend's contests, it was the opposite, with the visiting teams going home victorious.
