Klippers target southwest in SJHL Draft

The Kindersley Klippers set their sights on southwest Saskatchewan with three picks from our area in the recent SJHL draft.

"I don't think we really have an area we like to go to per say," said Klippers Coach and GM Clayton Jardine. "But if you want to choose that one it's great. We've had past players like Cash Arntsen that were really good for us. Anytime we can get players from down there... we're just really happy to acquire those three guys."

They include Maple Creek's Finn Gustafson in the 2nd round of the 2010 age group draft.

Hilton has 9 hits and 7 runs scored in his last 3 games.

Gus Koen had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs in the win.

Wilmer Henriquez, Donovan Borg, and Rydell Adair each had 2 hits for Swift Current.

Adam Korte earned the win for the 57's allowing only 2 runs over 6 2/3 innings of work.

Six local players taken in SJHL Draft

Six southwest products had their name called at yesterday's Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft.

The draft includes players born in 2009 and 2010.

The Kindersley Klippers nabbed Maple Creek product Finn Gustafson in the 2nd round of the 2010 draft.

He has 33 points in 27 games for the Swift Current U15 AA Broncos in 2024-25 and is committed to the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires in U18 AAA next season.

In the 2009 draft, La Ronge took Gull Lake's Jamie Kirwan in the 2nd round with the 17th pick overall.

Johnston commits to U of S

Former Swift Current Broncos defenceman Eric Johnston is headed to the University of Saskatchewan.

"It was a no-brainer when [the Huskies] reached out to me," said Johnston in a U of S media release. "You look at how deep [into the playoffs] they've gone the past few years, how deep the team is, and it's close to home so I think it's all you can get. They also have a tight team so joining a group with good chemistry is huge too, I'm looking forward to it."

Johnston played 239 games in the WHL and once served as the captain of the Prince Albert Raiders.

Broncos Cade Kennedy commits to Red Deer Polytechnic Men’s Hockey Program

Cade Kennedy has found his hockey home for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

The Regina native was acquired by the Broncos at the trading deadline in January from Estevan and made immediate impact in Humboldt.

Rebels sign first-round pick

The Red Deer Rebels are proud to announce that defenceman Nolan Wolitski, the club’s first-round pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

The Rebels selected the St. Albert, Alta., native with the seventh overall pick in last month’s draft.

Wolitski played for Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep (CSSHL) in 2024–25, recording 48 points (eight goals, 40 assists) and 74 penalty minutes in 29 league games. He added seven points in five playoff games and also appeared in four games with NAX’s U18 Prep team this season.

Estevan talent well represented in 2009-born SJHL Draft

It was a strong showing for Estevan hockey programs during this year’s Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Draft, with several local players hearing their names called and the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins adding a number of promising young prospects to their organization.

The Bruins made five selections in the 2009-born draft. With the fifth overall pick, they selected forward Ramy Borowsky from the Tisdale Trojans. At 18th overall, they chose defenceman Orsen Poll from the Yorkton U18 AAA Maulers.
