'Full swing': baseball diamond revitalization underway in Austin

Work to improve the conditions at the Austin baseball diamonds has put a pause on the community's annual softball tournament. However, with work continuing, the hope is they will be back and in better shape than ever for next year.

Broncos protect D Kohen Ruedig and F Kade Baert ahead of SJHL Draft

The 2025 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Draft will take place on Tuesday afternoon.  

This past weekend at the annual general meeting, the organizations ratified a motion to adjust the SJHL’s policy on the automatic protection of players who reside in the zones where the teams are located.

Veteran Brad Marchand scored his 8th of the playoffs in the first minute of the game and the Florida Panthers never looked back on their way to a 6-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

The Panthers now lead the Stanley Cup final 2 games to 1 with game 4 scheduled for Thursday night.

It was a night off for the Western Canadian Baseball League but there's plenty of action tonight including the Moose Jaw Miller Express taking on the Beavers in Weyburn and the Swift Current 57's look for their 2nd straight win as they host the Regina Red Sox.

Southeast Special Olympics swimmers return with medals from provincial summer games

The southeast was well represented over the weekend as local athletes took part in the Special Olympics Saskatchewan Summer Games swimming events in Swift Current.

One swimmer from Estevan and two from Weyburn made the trek and returned home with medals.

“It was absolutely amazing. We had so much fun,” said coach Carrie Curtis.

After arriving in Swift Current, the athletes enjoyed a game of mini-golf and some ice cream before resting up for the competition.

U13 Wildcats capture gold at Wheat City Classic

It was a weekend of incredible ball for the U13 Eastman Wildcats and from redemption in the gold medal game to battling Mother Nature, they came back home with some hardware and terrific memories.

"This past weekend, we attended the Wheat City Classic in Brandon," explains head coach Jason Plett. "It was our second tournament of the year. We knew there would be some weather coming in for the weekend, so we were not quite sure and combine that with the smoke, we were not sure if we'd be able to play. But we did and it turned out to be a good weekend for us."
