2 Terriers and 1 Portager among 10 recipients of Brady Grasdal Memorial Scholarship

Ten recipients were announced for the first Brady Grasdal Memorial Scholarship this summer.

The initial list was announced in a Facebook group for a golf tournament honouring Brady, with some familiar faces to Portage among them.

Portage's Tyson Chandler, along with Portage Terriers last season, Ryan Velan and Tristan Gravenor were named on the list.

Brady Grasdal's mother, Amber Grasdal, and his cousin, Melissa Marzolf, discussed the selection process.

Portage Hurricanes camps keep youth volleyball momentum going

After a strong first full season, the Portage Hurricanes volleyball club is back in action this summer, building on momentum with a pair of training camps for local youth at the Central Plains RecPlex in Southport.

Vice executive director Shasta St. Louis says the July camp was a hit with players, and the team is excited to keep the energy going.

Pistons acquire reigning SIJHL Top Defenceman Kabel in trade

The Steinbach Pistons have swung a deal, adding the SIJHL's Top Defenceman, Evan Kabel, in a trade with the Fort Francis Lakers in exchange for a player development fee. 

The 6'2", 190 pound left shot blueliner spent the last two seasons with his hometown Lakers, and Kabel says the trade is a little bitter sweet, but very exciting. "It was so exciting for me, it's a step up, and I'm excited to see how I can challenge myself."

15U AAA Dodgers competing in Tier 2 Provincials in Regina

 

The 15U AAA East Central Dodgers are in the Queen City this weekend as they compete in the 15U AAA Tier 2 Provincial Championships.  

Following a regular season record 12-20, the Dodgers will be one of five teams competing for the Tier 2 Championship.  

On Friday afternoon, they open the tournament against the Swift Current 57’s at 1:00. 

Roughriders enter season’s toughest territory

The August heat is nothing compared to the pressure cooker the Saskatchewan Roughriders are about to step into—a six-game stretch that could define their position in the Canadian Football League (CFL) standings. 

During that stretch, the Roughriders will meet the Montreal Alouettes twice, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Calgary Stampeders and their traditional home-and-home matchup with their prairie rivals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  

Miller Express come from behind to defeat Weyburn

The Moose Jaw Miller Express scored 10 unanswered runs in an 11-8 win over the Weyburn Beavers on Thursday night at Ross Wells Park. 

Weyburn opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Andy Rivas hit a sacrifice fly to centre field to score William Edwards. 

The Beavers extended their lead to 8-1 with one run in the second inning and two runs each in the third and fourth. 

Moose Jaw got back on the board in the bottom of the fifth with Austin Gurney hitting a solo home run.
