Roughriders running attack, defense spark big win against BC
The Saskatchewan Roughriders head into their first bye week of the season with a perfect 4-0 record. Led by backup quarterback Jake Maier, the Riders leaned on a powerful run game and key defensive turnovers to earn a 37-18 home win over the BC Lions on Saturday.
Early drives only resulted in field goals as the Riders took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter, answered quickly by the Lions as a 15-yard touchdown catch by Keon Hatcher led to the Lions going up 7-6.

Keaton Belsher shines at CFC Prospect Game
Keaton Belsher, a standout receiver for the Central Cyclones, has been recognized for his exceptional performance at the CFC Prospect Game.
In February, Belsher participated in the Canadian Football Chat (CFC) Prospect Game tryouts at the Yara Center in Moose Jaw. This event was part of the CFC Evaluation Tour, which included various combine-style tests such as the 40-yard dash, shuttle run, vertical jump, and broad jump.
Shoal Lake's Ky Solomon named an MHSAA Athlete of the Year
Star of Hamiota Collegiate Ky Solomon was named as 'A' Girls Athlete of the Year by the Manitoba High School Athletics Association.Â
Solomon, who claims Shoal Lake are her home town, says she was as surprised as she was thrilled to get the news she had won. "I was not expecting it at all" the 18-year-old says with a big smile. "I was driving to practice and I got the email. I instantly called mom and dad and told them, it was really exciting."
U13 Steinbach Storm coach thrilled with season and playoff success
It was a great year for the U13 Steinbach Storm and they capped it all off by marching through playoffs and bringing home the gold.
Coach Paul Turenne says personally, this year was magical. "It was my first time coaching my youngest daughter, so that was an experience," he says with a laugh. "Also, first time coaching with my wife, Tara. I mean, we had a blast coaching my daughter and some of her closest friends. We had four majors playing on our team and eight minors. They were just a bunch of fun girls to coach and it was a blast to do it along side Tara."
U17 Sonic beat Vipers twice, including on Local Sports Live
The Swift Current U17 Sonic doubled up the Valley Vipers Sunday afternoon on Country 94.1's Local Sports Live to sweep the doubleheader.
A five-run fifth inning for Swift Current propelled them to a 10-5 victory over the Vipers, with Serena Kochan and Taylor Schury each recording two hits and three RBIs for the Sonic.
"Being patient at the plate and letting the pitcher do the work and waiting for their pitch and sitting on it," Sonic assistant coach Alyssa Taylor said, was the key to the fifth inning offensive outburst.Â

The Swift Current AAA Nutrien Ag Solutions 57s were able to hold off the hard-charging White Butte Broncos Sunday afternoon, continuing their recent string of strong play.
Porter Burnett and Rudy Giesbrecht each had a pair of RBIs in the Swift Current 8-6 win over the Broncos on Country 94.1's Local Sports Live powered by OMT Projects.
"The kids came out swinging right away and got a good lead right away," 57s assistant coach Nick Giesbracht said. "Everyone was on their bats and on their game."Â

Calgary's Chanse Vigen still leads the aggregate after 3 days of racing at the Ponoka Stampede.
They race with the traditional four wagons per heat, but it's stretched out over six days.
The top eight wagons in the aggregate after Sunday's races move into the semi-finals on Monday.
The finals on Canada Day feature the top 4 from the semi-finals racing in the $75,000 Tommy Dorchester Championship Final Heat.

The Red Deer Rebels are excited to announce their full 68-game schedule for the 2025-26 Western Hockey League Regular Season.
New for this season! The Rebels have introduced “6 p.m. Saturdays” where all Saturday night home games at the Marchant Crane Centrium will begin one hour earlier at 6 p.m. The Rebels will play 13 Saturday night home games in 2025-26.
Friday and weeknight home games will continue to start at 7 p.m. The Rebels have one Sunday home game in 2025-26 (February 15 vs. Lethbridge) that will start at 4 p.m.
