Canadian Cattle Young Leaders Program application deadline coming up March 31


The Canadian Cattle Association's Young Leaders Program has helped to mentor 180 participants in the beef industry.

The CYL program was established in 2010 as an industry succession tool for the beef sector. 

CCA Youth Programs and Engagement Manager Jessica Radau says the program is open to young people 18-35 from across Canada involved in all areas of the beef supply chain.

Red Deer RCMP warn public of counterfeit currency

The Red Deer RCMP are alerting the public to look out for counterfeit currency.

Police have received multiple reports of transactions where $50 and $100 counterfeit bills were used or attempted to be used. Anyone in the area who handles currency is alerted to be on the lookout for suspicious bills, and if they come into contact with it, report it to police.

The Bank of Canada has the following advice for dealing with counterfeit currency:

Chinook’s Edge staff member combining 3D printing with desire to help hospitalized children 

A Chinook’s Edge technology team member is making a difference in the lives of hospitalized children.  

Myles Doupe is donating toys he has created on his 3-D printer to the Red Deer Hospital Foundation. The foundation gives the toys to the hospital to share with children during their stay.   

Partial road closure in Red Deer County

Red Deer County is advising of a single lane road closure (east lane) Wednesday, March 26th, and Thursday, March 27th.

Fibre optic cables are being installed in the area. There will be a flag person on site. 

The lane closure is on RR 273 north of Clearview Drive to City of Red Deer boundry.

RDCRS recognized by Parkland Regional Safety Committee for dedication to safety

The Parkland Regional Safety Committee (PRSC) awarded Lisa Vogt of Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) recently retired Health and Safety Manager, with the 2024 Long Service Award on March 18.  

Vogt received the award in recognition of her unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to the PRSC over many years of service.   

Five RDP athletes recognized by ACAC

Five student-athletes from the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings and Queens Hockey teams have been recognized by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) for their impactful play during the 2023/2024 season.

Red Deer’s Avery Lajeunesse and Stettler’s Kyla Hansel have made the ACAC Women’s Hockey First All-Conference team. Jacob Wozney was selected to the ACAC Men’s Hockey First All-Conference team. Chance Longjohn and Tanner Sklaruk were named to the ACAC Men’s Hockey Second All-Conference team.
