Blackfalds RCMP respond to thefts, break and enters, and assaults last week 

The Blackfalds RCMP Detachment received 137 calls for service during the week of March 11 to March 17.  

The calls included four assaults, three breach of peace, one break and enter, two frauds, three mischiefs, five roadside suspensions, seven thefts, and 16 motor vehicle collisions.

Lacombe's Spring Active Living Fair returns tonight

With warmer weather on the way, many parents will be eager to sign their kids up for spring activities.

The best way to do that is to attend the Spring Active Living Fair in Lacombe, which is taking place Wednesday, April 2 at the Lacombe Memorial Centre from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dog attack on Samson Cree Nation sends one person to hospital with serious injuries

One person was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries following a dog attack that occurred on Samson Cree Nation.

Maskwacis RCMP responded to the incident on Thursday, March 20 at 11:29 a.m.

The dogs in question have yet to be positively identified.

Upgrades begin on Sunbreaker Cove Boat Launch

Construction on the Sunbreaker Cove Boat Launch officially began this week.

The newly upgraded launch will remain in the existing location but will feature significant improvements, including:

  • increased width 
  • longer ramp length 
  • new dock and gangway system

This upgrade will utilize prefabricated cable concrete panels for increased durability and reliability, along with a steeper grade to facilitate easier and safer boat launching, ultimately enhancing overall functionality and user experience.

'Warmer than normal' spring predicted for Central Alberta

With spring officially here, the forecast for Central Alberta is looking favourable for the foreseeable future.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada Danielle Desjardins says that temperatures are going to be above normal for the next week or so.

The normal for this time of year is a high of plus six and a low of minus seven.

"We are going to see temperatures into the double digits, maybe even the low teens for early next week," she said.

Premier Smith shares concerns with Prime Minister Mark Carney

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith met with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday, at the request of the new PM.

“We had a very frank discussion in which I made it clear that Albertans will no longer tolerate the way we've been treated by the federal Liberals over the past 10 years," said Smith.
