Lacombe and District Garden Club celebrates 75th anniversary with tree planting
The Lacombe and District Garden Club celebrated 75 years in the community by planting a Toba Hawthorn in the Lacombe Memorial Centre Garden on Tuesday.
“We like the idea of living legacies,” said Karen Holmes, Chairperson of the Lacombe and District Garden Club. “We like the idea that a tree gets rooted in the past, as it were, in the soil and grows into the future and is something that can mark our life together.”
Red Deer drivers can expect multiple delays with construction
Motorists are advised of upcoming traffic disruptions as crews begin road infrastructure improvements. Motorists and pedestrians should expect traffic delays in the following areas on Wednesday, May 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- 48 Street from 47 Avenue to end (east of 46 Avenue)
- 46 Avenue from 49 Street to 48 Street
- 55 Avenue from 41 Street to 43 Street
- 45 Avenue from Mackenzie Trails to 60m south of 67 Street bridge

H.J. Cody students prepare to "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes"
Coming up on Wednesday, June 5th, students from H.J. Cody Highschool in Sylvan Lake will be raising funds and awareness to end gender-based and domestic violence.
They will be participating in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser. Hayden Becker, who is a Grade 11 student and President of the Interact Club talks about this year's event.
"This is our 7th year doing this at H.J. Cody. We do open it as a Community event, but it is run by the high school. We have about 15 kids in our in our at club this year who are organizing it."
Penhold breaks ground for Waskasoo Middle School
Construction of the new Penhold Waskasoo Middle School is underway, following a sod-turning event on May 24.
School leaders, division staff, school board trustees, Town of Penhold staff, the mayor and councilors, provincial dignitaries, and future students gathered at the school site for a sod-turning ceremony.

Lacombe council approves Cranna Lake Solar Lighting project grant funding
Lacombe City Council approved a $12,346.50 Community Builder Partnership Fund grant to Echo Lacombe for the Cranna Lake Trail Solar Lighting Project.
Echo Lacombe is leading the project to install solar-powered pathway lighting along a designated route at Cranna Lake.
Six solar light poles will be installed to enhance safety, connectivity, and accessibility, a City of Lacombe media release said.
Another road closure in Red Deer starts today (Tuesday)
Motorists are advised of a road closure on Cronquist Drive west of Walker Boulevard to Webster Drive.
On Tuesday, May 28 from 7 a.m. to Thursday, May 30 at 4 p.m. Cronquist Drive west of Walker Boulevard to Webster Drive will be closed.
Please find an alternative route. Drivers are reminded to slow down when approaching or driving in construction areas and obey all signs. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

Chinook’s Edge bus drivers claim top 3 spots at Central Alberta Bus Roadeo
Congratulations to three Chinook’s Edge bus drivers who claimed top spots at the Central Alberta Bus Roadeo on May 25, 2024, in Red Deer!
Kelly Frere, who is the division’s Lead Trainer for Chinook’s Edge, placed first. Second place went to Melissa Brodeur who is also a trainer for the division, and drives a bus route in Carstairs. Third place went to Samantha Smith, also a trainer and bus driver in Cremona.

There will be temporary road closures in Ponoka on Thursday, May 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. along the following streets for the Graduates of Ponoka Parade:

• 48 Avenue (from 55 Street to 51 Street);
• 51 Street (from 48 Avenue to 57 Avenue);
• 57 Avenue (from 51 Street to 50 Street);
