UPDATE: Airdrie commuters face delays after multi-vehicle collision

A multi-vehicle collision was causing delays for Airdrie's afternoon commuters.

According to reports, there was a five-vehicle collision northbound on 8th Street just north of the intersection with Yankee Valley Boulevard. The scene has since been cleared.

More snow is forecasted to fall tonight in Airdrie.

Woman dead after Stoney Trail crash; police say unknown vehicle fled scene

A 57-year-old woman is dead after a late-night multi-vehicle collision on Stoney Trail N.W., and police say an unknown vehicle — believed to be a semi-truck and trailer combination — did not remain at the scene.

Officers responded at approximately 11:49 p.m. Tuesday to a collision in the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail, near the bridge deck at Nose Hill Drive N.W.

Canada among few countries exempt from Trump's new tariffs, existing duties remain

Prime Minister Mark Carney will address reporters shortly after the White House declared both Canada and Mexico exempt from new reciprocal tariffs announced today by U.S. President Donald Trump.

A fact sheet from Trump's office says goods imported under the existing continental trade deal, known as CUSMA, will not face tariffs, while those outside the deal will see a 10 per cent tariff.

Canada was left off a lengthy list Trump unveiled this afternoon showing the tariff levels most other countries will face starting Thursday.

Alberta Premier Smith expects key industries to escape imposition of new U.S. tariffs

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she expects some major industries, including those in her province, won't face new tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Smith told reporters Tuesday that things could change, but she thinks food production and oil and gas won't be targeted under Trump's new tariff plan, which is set to be announced Wednesday.

Airdrie residence searched as part of Calgary police drug, firearms investigation

Calgary police say two men are facing charges after approximately $70,000 worth of drugs, 11 firearms, several rounds of ammunition and cash were seized as part of a two-month investigation into a man who was not abiding by his bail conditions.

On Tuesday, March 18, police executed search warrants at four residences located in northeast Calgary and Airdrie. Police also searched four vehicles believed to be connected to the suspects.

Gas prices drop — but Alberta warns gas retailers: pass on the savings

Alberta is warning gas retailers that it expects them to pass on savings after the federal government set the consumer carbon tax on fuel to zero, saying companies found guilty of price gouging could face fines of up to $300,000 or two years in jail.

"With the removal of this costly tax, Alberta drivers will save an average of $215 per year at the pumps. Our government expects that retailers will pass these tax savings on to Albertans in full," Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally said Tuesday in a news release.

Update: Local fire department issues warning to motorists

The Olds Fire Department is urging drivers to slow down and adjust to changing weather conditions as snow, ice and poor visibility continue to affect roads across much of the region on Wednesday.

"Road conditions are poor in some areas due to changing weather," the department said in a public advisory on social media. Wednesday. "Please slow down, allow extra travel time, and drive to the conditions."

The department also warned motorists to watch for ice, snow and reduced visibility and recommended checking road reports before travelling.

Update: Another jackknifed semi blocks QEII near Carstairs

A semi-trailer jackknifed on the QEII between Highway 2A and Highway 581 Wednesday morning has been cleared. 

Two earlier incidents on the northbound QEII near the same junction were cleared earlier in the morning. A semi jackknifed just south of Highway 581 around 7:02 a.m., with a follow-up update at 7:35 a.m. confirming the vehicle had been cleared.

UPDATE: Hazardous highway conditions and collision in Airdrie

Snow, ice, and slush have created dangerous driving conditions in and around Airdrie on Wednesday morning, leading to collisions and travel delays.

Emergency crews responded to a crash on Edmonton Trail near Third Avenue. Airdrie Fire and EMS were on scene, but there were no immediate details on injuries or the number of vehicles involved. The scene is now clear.

Stoney Trail N.W. was closed southbound from Crowchild Trail and Scenic Acres View N.W. to Nose Hill Drive. An early morning fatal vehicle collision led to the road closure for an investigation.
