Summit Trails Online High School's Valedictorian this year is Jennifer Dumanovski.

She is excited to garner the role and was not expecting it at all.

"I wasn't even thinking of applying until my guidance counsellor brought it up and asked why I didn't apply, as I had high enough grades."

Dumanovski explained that she had to fill out a form, get a letter of recommendation from a teacher and write an essay on why she thought she was suitable for the role.

Airdrie fire crews responded to a house fire in Midtown around 8:45 a.m. Monday, according to Fire Chief Mike Pirie.

Alberta is bringing in new rules this fall to ensure that only what it calls “age appropriate” books are available in school libraries.

Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides says the move was spurred by four graphic coming-of-age novels depicting sexual, LGBTQ+ content found to be in circulation in public schools in Edmonton and Calgary.

Nicolaides says he was extremely concerned to learn such novels were available.
