Carney, Poilievre to meet face-to-face as party leaders square off in first debate

Liberal Leader Mark Carney's French language skills will be put to the test, and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will seek to turn his numbers around, when the five main federal party leaders square off in Montreal tonight in the first of two debates ahead of election day on April 28.

The two-hour French-language debate will be moderated by Radio-Canada's Patrice Roy and will focus on five themes: the cost of living, energy and climate, the trade war, identity and sovereignty, and immigration and foreign affairs.

AHS: Measles case prompts public warning of potential exposures in Calgary region

On Tuesday, Alberta Health Services (AHS) said a confirmed case of measles in the Calgary Zone has led to possible public exposures in Canmore, Banff and Calgary.

"This case has been in public settings in Canmore, Banff and Calgary while infectious," AHS added.

Individuals who were in the following locations during the specified dates and times may have been exposed to measles:

April 6 — Canmore
Save-On-Foods, 950 Railway Ave. #2
From about 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Alberta reports 16 more cases of measles, bringing total to 74

Alberta is reporting 16 more cases of measles, bringing the provincial total to 74 since the beginning of March.

The government says the new cases were reported in Alberta's central and southern zones.

Nearly all cases are in school-aged children, with 18 cases being reported in children under the age of five.

The province says 64 of the total cases have passed the point where the highly contagious disease could be transmitted to others.

Inflation cooled to 2.3% in March as gas prices fell, StatCan says

Canadians got a break on inflation in March as gas prices fell and a slowdown in travel to the United States helped cool airfare costs, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.

The annual rate of inflation slowed to 2.3 per cent last month, down from 2.6 per cent in February. A poll provided by LSEG Data & Analytics ahead of Tuesday’s release had expected yearly inflation to hold steady month-to-month.

StatCan said gas prices fell 1.6 per cent year-over-year in March, coming off a hike of 5.1 per cent in February.

Full Big Four Roadhouse lineup revealed for Calgary Stampede 2025

 

Natasha Bedingfield, TLC, and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello are among the artists set to perform at this year’s Big Four Roadhouse during the Calgary Stampede.

The full lineup, released Tuesday, also includes Lil Jon, De La Soul, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, and Yung Gravy. More than 20 acts will perform on the Bud Light Stage from July 4 to 13.

Calgary’s Scotia Place goes vertical with 35-foot foundation walls

 

Crews have begun installing rebar and pouring concrete into 35-foot-tall foundation wall forms at Scotia Place, marking the first phase of structural construction on Calgary's new downtown event centre.

The City of Calgary confirmed Monday that excavation is nearing completion, and foundation work is now underway. Rebar panels are being raised, and concrete is being poured into the site's first vertical elements, which are 35 feet below ground.
