Students help bear-proof Kananaskis Village ahead of G7 Summit
More than 200 students and scouts from across southern Alberta have joined forces with environmental groups to remove buffaloberry bushes from around Kananaskis Village in preparation for next month’s G7 Summit.
The initiative, spearheaded by the non-profit Friends of Kananaskis Country, is focused on improving safety for both people and wildlife by reducing the likelihood of bear encounters.

Footstock hits the ground running in Cochrane this Sunday
One of Cochrane’s biggest and most beloved events is back this weekend. Footstock returns for its 26th year on Sunday, June 1, promising a full day of racing, community spirit, and healthy living.
More than 1,000 participants and 250 volunteers are expected to take part in this year’s event, which includes a variety of races for all ages and skill levels. A new spy watchdog report says an overseas Canadian Security Intelligence Service operation was suddenly halted by government officials, "creating unnecessary danger for the CSIS team" and raising questions about ministerial accountability.

Cochrane expands FireSmart efforts ahead of dry season
With dry conditions on the horizon, the Town of Cochrane is ramping up wildfire prevention efforts through the next phase of its FireSmart Program, aimed at protecting residents, homes, and natural areas from increasing wildfire risks.
Building on the momentum from Emergency Preparedness Week, the Town has now launched phase two of its wildfire mitigation strategy.
