Humboldt Hammerheads seasons wraps up with a strong showing at Provincials

The Humboldt Hammerheads season ended last weekend in Swift Current with provincials. 

It was another successful swim meet for the Hammerheads even with the hot weather and shallow pool which meant diving blocks couldn’t be used by the swimmers.  

26 individual event medals were awarded to Hammerheads along with 22 relay teams with Hammerhead swimmers also topped the podium.  

Cell phones banned inside of Saskatchewan K-12 classrooms starting this fall

The Saskatchewan Government announced on Tuesday that cell phones will not be permitted inside of K-12 classrooms for the 2024-25 school year.  

“Technology has its place, but too often, cell phones are taking students’ attention away from what they should be learning,” Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill said in a release. “This new policy will allow students to be more engaged with their teachers and focused on learning the skills and knowledge they need to reach their potential.” 

Watrous RCMP seeking help locating 60-year-old man

Watrous RCMP is asking the public’s assistance in locating a missing individual.  

On Thursday, August 1, Watrous RCMP received a request to perform a wellness check for 60-year-old Richard Thordarson of Young. RCMP Officers were unable to locate him after completing checks at multiple locations. Thordarson has not been since Friday, July 26 and is considered missing.  

Indian Head RCMP and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol seize over 1,180 lbs of cannabis

Indian Head RCMP and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol were instrumental in seizing a sizeable quantity of illegal cannabis by initiating a traffic stop on the #1 Highway.  

An RCMP release outlines that on July 29, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Indian Head RCMP received a request to assist Saskatchewan Highway Patrol with a roadside traffic stop. 

Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan gives over a million dollars in charitable gaming grants to 750 groups in Saskatchewan

 

Throughout the first quarter of 2024-25, Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) distributed $1.16 million in charitable gaming grants that benefitted 750 different groups and organizations throughout the province in the first quarter of 2024-25. 

Legal dispute between Broncos and supplier concluded

The legal dispute between the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Association Inc and Spotlight Sport and Corporate Wear Ltd has concluded, according to a joint release by legal counsel for each of the two sides.  

The release states that the Broncos and Spotlight are pleased to confirm that they have resolved their differences and have come to an amicable resolution in regard to the claims previously set out in KBG-SA-0072-2022. 

Two people dead following a motorcycle collision on Highway 35

Two people are dead following a motorcycle collision that occurred last night on Highway 35 near Hendon.

Wadena RCMP were alerted of a collision at around 10:30 and responded along with local fire services and EMS.  

Upon an investigation it was determined that a motorcycle collided with a cow on the road.  The driver and passenger were 

declared deceased by EMS at the scene. 

They have been identified as a 45-year-old male from Spalding and a 51-year-old female from Archerwill. Their families have been notified.
