Last night, I had the chance to check out an event put on by Cochrane Tourism at The Fence & Post, with mead pairings from Fallentimbre Meadery

The 5-course menu featured Alberta's 7 signature foods.

Can you name any of them?

Don't worry, I've got this!

1 - Beef

Let's start with the obvious! Alberta Beef is a signature food. Alberta is the largest beef-producing province in Canada, accounting for 4.9 million heads of cattle.

3 - Canola

There are approximately 13,000 canola farmers in Alberta represented by the Alberta Canola Producers Commission.

4 - Honey

Alberta’s 800 commercial beekeepers produce an average of 144 pounds of honey per hive per year. That’s all from about 282,000 hives and over 169 billion bees! Alberta’s pure white honey is world-renowned for its quality.

5 - Red Fife Wheat

The oldest successfully grown variety of wheat in Canada, was brought to Alberta by early Ukrainian pioneers.

6 - Root Vegetables

Rutabagas, parsnips, carrots, turnips, and beets, grow very well in Alberta.

7 - Saskatoon Berries

Don't let the name fool you. The Saskatoon berry is commonly found in open woods, coulees, and bluffs, on hillsides, and banks along streams.
