The Saskatchewan Party has announced their cabinet for their upcoming term, with the southeast seeing some new representation.
Daryl Harrison, the MLA for the Cannington constituency, will be serving as the Minister of Agriculture.
Harrison says that he's honoured to serve, bringing with him first-hand experience in the industry.
"I'm a cow-calf, producer, rancher in the southeast part of the province and have been all my life and will continue to do so going into the future."
With his experience in the industry, he's been involved in a number of farm organizations and can take that experience into the minister's seat.
"I've been a Zone 1 stock grower, director, and stock grower member for a long time and also a Saskatchewan Cattlemen's Association member automatically through our check-off here in the province, so worked with both those organizations in a different capacity, but looking forward to continuing that work and also work with other stakeholder groups around the province."
He'll be at work making sure producers in Saskatchewan have good options for the future.
"Well, certainly making sure our business risk management programs, you know, stay strong. We went through some dry years last year, last crop year was certainly better than the previous couple of years," said Harrison. "But you know we have to have to box up our producers here to make sure they can continue to grow the food and the fuel that the world needs."
Harrison says he's looking forward to his time in the seat.
"We used to be called the wheat basket but ag is so much more than that right now and the value added that we can grow within the province, there's no limits to that. So I'm looking forward to that and continuing research into ag and ag technology."
