Rural Manitoba takes over CAA’s 2025 Worst Roads top 10 list

The results of the 2025 CAA Worst Roads campaign are in. 

This year, Provincial Trunk Highway 34 has taken over the top spot. 

Ewald Friesen, manager of government and community relations for CAA Manitoba, says they've seen this road make the list before, but not the number one spot.

"This is the sixth time that this highway has made it to our top ten list, so it's what we would like to call a usual suspect," said Friesen. "The stretch of highway runs between Holland and Gladstone, and you know, we've seen it before, but never in our top in our number one spot.

Transcona wildland fire quickly spreads to businesses

Emergency crews continue to battle what was a massive blaze in north Transcona on Monday evening, but officials say the fire is now considered contained.

The City of Winnipeg says a grass fire broke out around 2 p.m. in the 600 block of Gunn Road.

Scott Wilkinson, Deputy Chief, Fire Rescue Operations & Training for the WFPS, says that the fire did spread to some structures on the south side of Gunn Road as well as "car storage." Wilkinson says some of the structures have been lost and some businesses suffered "significant damage."

UPDATED: Two people charged with animal cruelty re-arrested, face new charges

Two Winnipeggers charged with animal cruelty earlier this year are now facing even more charges.

In October 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service entered a complex investigation after receiving a report from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian Animal Welfare that included videos and photographs showing the torture and killing of animals, which were being shared on the dark web. 

A 55-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were arrested and charged with several animal cruelty charges.

Highway 1 closed again in Westman due to stormy weather

The westbound lanes of Highway 1 have been closed from Brandon to Griswold once again in western Manitoba.

The stretch of highway had only been open for a few hours before being shut down at 9:31 p.m. on Wednesday.

Strong winds and a mix of precipitation, including snow and rain, battered western Manitoba and led to dozens of highway closures throughout the day. It wasn't until 5:20 p.m. that all highways had been reopened.

UPDATE: Perimeter Highway reopens following fatal crash Tuesday morning

UPDATE:

The Perimeter Highway has been reopened at Dugald Road following a serious crash Tuesday morning. 

At approximately 12:35 a.m., Oakbank RCMP arrived on the scene and noted three pickup trucks and a semi-trailer that were involved in the crash. 

Officers from Beausejour, St-Pierre-Jolys, Red River North, Selkirk and the Winnipeg Police Service helped on the scene. 

Faith-based film shot in Winnipeg, starring Hilary Swank, hits theatres this Friday

A faith-based movie shot in Winnipeg is just days away from premiering on the big screen. 

Originally slated to debut in the fall, Ordinary Angels, starring two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank and “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson, will hit theatres on Friday. 

Police shoot man on rampage outside Casting Crowns' concert, tour semi stolen in second incident

Casting Crowns is asking their fans for prayer after two scary incidents within weeks of each other.

Over the weekend, Casting Crowns posted a video on social media showing an incident at one of their 20th anniversary tour stops.

It showed a front-end loader driving through the parking lot, running over boulevards and heading straight for police officers attempting to stop it.
