Series of vandalism leaves Portage RCMP searching for answers

Portage la Prairie RCMP is looking for further information regarding two vandalism incidents that took place in 150-minute span.

The Police Report states that on May 15th, at 11:41 p.m., Portage RCMP took a call regarding vandalism in the 800 block of 3rd Street NW in Portage la Prairie. Officers made patrols of the area, but the suspect was not located. The suspect reportedly tossed a piece of wood at the house, striking and breaking a window at this address.

Human remains wash up at Matlock Beach

Selkirk RCMP is continuing to investigate a case of human remains found on the shore of Lake Winnipeg in the Matlock Beach area.

The call came into the RCMP on May 20th, at around 11:45 a.m.; the identity of the remains is unknown at this time.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s office is also working hard to find answers to this case.

WINNERS NAMED: Make-A-Wish raises $5000 thanks to spring basket raffle

Enns Brothers in Portage la Prairie was the location of the Make-A-Wish spring basket draw last Thursday.

Make-A-Wish annually receives donations from community groups to raffle off and uses that raffle money to make sick children's dreams come true.

This year's spring raffle featured two bikes donated from Enns Brothers, a $300 gift card to Panko's Food Centre and a $200 gift card for Mr. Mikes SteakhouseCasual to be won.

After all was said and done, the community contributed $5000 worth of raffle tickets.

The People's Party of Canada (PPC) candidate for Portage-Lisgar is calling for debate on abortions Canada.

At a news conference in Winkler on Wednesday, Maxime Bernier said, if elected, he would table a private member's bill, the Protection of Preborn Children Act, at the first available opportunity in the House of Commons to amend Section 287 of the Criminal Code.

Jewish culture celebrated in Portage during May

Portage la Prairie Mayor Sharilyn Knox was joined by Andreas Romanow earlier this month to proclaim May 2023 as Jewish Heritage Month in the City.

"It made me really proud that the Mayor reached out to me and asked me to be part of that," Romanow says with a smile.
