RCMP confirm fatal Monday morning crash on Highway 3

Manitoba RCMP has released details surrounding the incident that closed a portion of Highway 3 north of Winkler and Morden yesterday morning. 

Investigation has determined that a semi-trailer travelling south on Highway 3 lost control on the ice-covered roadway and hit the east ditch, about 2 kms north of Highway 14 in the RM of Stanley, at around 9:30 a.m.

The classics hit the stage in 10th Classic Country concert

Fans of classic Country music flocked to Gretna's Buhler Hall this past Friday and Saturday evenings for the 10th Classic Country Concert.

"Oh, it was a lot of fun Friday night. There were a few seats left open. Saturday night was kind of a little bit over full and a very great response," said event organizer, James Fehr. "We have so much talent around here, like guys that are very, very good at what they do."

Kiddie Sunshine Centre expansion moving ahead with government support

That from Laura Wiebe, Chair of the Kiddie Sunshine Centre's Board of Directors following news this week the federal and provincial governments are making a significant financial commitment towards the daycare's new, expanded facility in Altona. Details of the pledge are set to be released in the coming weeks. 

Mayor enthusiastic about second intake for Practical Nursing Program in Morden

There is going to be a second intake of Assiniboine Community College's (ACC) Practical Nursing Program at the newly opened rural rotating site in Morden. ACC confirmed the news earlier this week. 

The ribbon was cut on the site in January with the first intake of students taking their seats that same week. 

Mayor Brandon Burley was pleased to hear the news. 

Officials continue to watch Red, Roseau Rivers as spring thaw continues in RM of Montcalm

Officials in the Rural Municipality of Montcalm are not raising alarm bells quite yet following the province's upgraded flood forecast for the Red River. 
    
Manitoba's Hydrologic Forecast Centre is now expecting a major risk of flooding on the Red this spring. A generally low risk remains for the Roseau River. Both waterways flow through the municipality.
