Watrous welcomes new group home for persons with intellectual disabilities

A new group home in Watrous will now allow four individuals with intellectual disabilities a safe living space. 

The home is operated by the Interlake Human Resources Corporation (IHRC) and received support from the provincial government with $1.4 million in construction funding from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, the Ministry of Social Services is providing approximately $505,000 in annual operating funding.   

Constuction season for streets of Humboldt

Summertime means it's construction time. 

 That's been the case within Humboldt as a few streets have been getting some repairs done recently.  

After some rainy weather in June that caused some delays, a warm July with little precipitation has allowed work to move ahead.  

Director of Public Works Peter Bergquist says there are a few projects that are currently underway.  

East Central 15U AAA Dodgers end Evan Thomas Memorial tournament strong with a pair of wins

The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers competed in the Evan Thomas Memorial tournament this weekend in Saskatoon, ending with a record of 2-2.  

The Dodgers opened the tournament on Friday night with a 13-3 loss to the Parkland Twins. Luke Manz hit a solo home run to lead the offence. The Dodgers were limited to two hits during the game.  

Riders forced to regroup after their first loss of season to BC

The Saskatchewan Roughriders tasted defeat for the first time in the 2024 season after a 35-20 loss to the BC Lions on Saturday.  

Former members of the Roughriders came back to haunt their old team, receiver Justin McInnis continued his hot start to the season with 14 receptions for 243 yards and a touchdown.  

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr had 451 passing yards along with a touchdown.  

A scorching Thursday in Saskatchewan

The heat was on in Saskatchewan yesterday, with several communities establishing new temperature records on Thursday.

Coronach reached 36.4 degrees, breaking a record set in 1968 of 36.1 degrees. 

Assiniboia's new record is 35.5 degrees, surpassing a mark that happened in 2021. 

Hudson Bay and Outlook broke some records, with both communities hitting the 34-degree mark. Outlook's previous high was 33.9 degrees set in 1925
while Hudson Bay's previous high of 33.5 degrees was set back in 2021.

Prairie Central's roster for 2024 Sask. Summer Games

The biggest athletic competition in the province is just around the corner. 

From July 21-27, the Saskatchewan Summer Games will take place in Lloydminster. 

On Thursday, the Prairie Central district held a pep rally in Davidson and unveiled the athletes that will be competing.

15UA East Central Wolverines ready for final tune-up

The U15A East Central Wolverines will be in Muenster this weekend for a pair of double headers. 

Friday night they meet the Twin City Angels for a pair of 5-inning games at 6:00

Saturday they will meet the Prince Albert Aces with opening pitches set for 10:30 and 1:00. As well, the concession will be open for Saturday's games.

These games will be the final games for the Wolverines before they take part in the 15A provincials in Prince Albert. 
 

Free Fishing Weekend in Saskatchewan

Along with the sizzling summer temperatures, there will be another incentive to head to the lake this weekend with it being Free Fishing Weekend (July 13 &14) in Saskatchewan. 

Residents and visitors of the province are welcome to drop a line and give angling a try, no license required. 

During the weekend, anglers can fish without a license on any public waters open to sport fishing. 

Concert and BBQ at Museum on Thursday

Summer means grilling time, and the Humboldt & District Museum Gallery will be offering a concert and BBQ on Thursday from 11:30-1. 

Brian Grest and Walter Bushman will be on hand providing a musical performance sponsored by the Humboldt Area Arts Council.  

The proceeds of the BBQ will go towards art and culture programming for the museum and gallery.
