Broncos add G Edouard Gauthier

The Humboldt Broncos have added a veteran presence in their crease.

Today, the green and gold announced the signing of 2004-born goaltender Edouard Gauthier. 

Last season, the Blainville, QC product spent time with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL, registering a 7-12-2 record with a 3.67 G.A.A. and a .885 SV%. 

Gauthier was selected by the Victoriaville Tigers in the 2020 QMJHL Draft (121st overall). 

Watson Taekwon-Do Club is ready to strike for another year

The Watson Taekwon-Do Club is set for a new season. 

Registration is next Tuesday (August 27), Wednesday (Aug.28) and Thursday (Aug.29) nights at the Watson Civic Centre from 6-8 pm. 

With classes beginning after the long weekend in September, running three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. 

Royals earn one win at Western Canadians in BC

The Marysburg Royals competed in the Western Canadian Senior Baseball Championships in Delta BC on the weekend. 

It was a tough weekend, with the results not going the Royals way.

Their first game saw the Royals lose to the South Delta Padres 1-0

The Royals second game was a 4-3 loss to at the hands of the West Winnipeg A's.

In their third game, Marysburg was defeated by South Delta Brewers 8-4. 

To finish off the tournament, the Royals ended up with their only win, a 7-0 shutout victory over the Parkland Twins from Alberta.

Local crops shaping up with harvest almost here

 

With the summer days becoming shorter, harvest time is almost here.  

A wet June, followed by a hot and dry July was mostly positive for local farmers according to Local Crop Extension Specialist Ashley Kaminski, but there were also some issues.  

“We’re very grateful for the moisture that we’ve had this year and honestly crops are looking pretty good, considering what we’ve had for the last few years.” 

Jacob Leicht's memory will live on with new outdoor rink and courts

 

When he was growing up in Humboldt, there was a good chance you would have found Jacob Leicht at the outdoor rink near St. Dominic School playing hockey with his friends during the winter. 

Soon, everyone in the city will get to experience the same passion that Jacob enjoyed with a brand-new facility.

The Canadian Football League prides itself on wild and unpredictable finishes and that could just summarize overtime in Thursday's Saskatchewan Roughriders and Ottawa Redblacks game. 

It ended in a 22-22 tie, but there were plenty of hijinks during extra time.  

Tied 13-13 after regulation, Ottawa scored on their opening possession to take a 19-13.

Saskatchewan wins first game at Baseball Canada Cup


After dropping their first two games on Wednesday at the Baseball Canada Cup in Fort McMurray, Team Saskatchewan picked up a 9-7 win over Nova Scotia in their lone game yesterday. 

Muenster's Marek Yeager is a member of Team Saskatchewan. He did not see any action on Thursday. 

Coming up on Friday, Team Saskatchewan will meet BC, who are 3-0 through the first two days of action. 

The playoffs begin on Saturday and will wrap up on Sunday night.   

 

Roughriders looking to halt two-game losing skid in Ottawa

It will be a tough Thursday night matchup for the Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-3) as they head to the nation’s capital to meet the Ottawa Redblacks (5-2).  

Saskatchewan is coming off a 42-31 loss to the Edmonton Elks on Saturday, while the Redblacks will be rested as they enjoyed a bye last week, with their last game on July 26.
