The reactions continue from the Provincial Budget released by the Saskatchewan Government on Wednesday.  

Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF) President Samantha Becotte said in a news release that the budget is a step in the direction towards investment in education.  

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) announced the winners of the regular season awards on Wednesday.  

The big winner was Flin Flon Bombers Goalie Matthew Kieper who was named the SJHL Most Valuable Player and the Goalie of the Year.  

Kieper ended the season with a 23-2-1-1 record with a 1.80 GAA and a .935 SV%/.

For Dayne Beuker, the path to a career in hockey is a long winding one, that’s drawing closer to glory.  

After learning how to skate overseas in Germany, Beuker began his hockey career in Humboldt and progressed through the Humboldt Minor Hockey program.  

There will be a free webinar today at 3:30pm to teach the art of animal tracking hosted by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). 

The virtual event is open to anyone, whether they’re a nature enthusiast, an outdoor adventurer or just have a pique interest.  

HOOPLA is set for this weekend in Saskatoon, on Tuesday, the draws were announced for each division. 

There are four teams remaining in each category. 

For 2A boys, the St. Brieux Crusaders are the top seed and will meet (#5) LCBI of Outlook. The other semifinal will see (#2) Norqauy meet (#3) Saskatoon Christian Academy. St. Brieux will be trying to repeat as provincial champions. 

With the recent implementation of tariffs issued by US President Donald Trump on steel and aluminum products, Saskatchewan crown corporations will be buying Saskatchewan steel to support jobs with the purchase of thousands of pounds of steel along with hundreds of kilometres of steel procured at the EVRAZ plant in Regina.  

Wednesday will mark the beginning of the spring sitting at the Saskatchewan Legislature, including the Throne Speech. 

The Provincial budget for the upcoming year will also be delivered by Finance Minister Jim Reiter.  

Last week, at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) convention in Saskatoon, Premier Scott Moe offered a preview of what residents can expect with this year’s budget.  

Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit is on pace for its busiest year ever. 

These cases include investigating crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of infants, children and teens on the Internet. 

Back in 2021-22, the unit had 853 files. In 2022-23, the number of files increased to 931. The 2023-24 fiscal year saw 1,003. Investigators are currently on pace to reach 1,317 new files for the upcoming fiscal year.  

The U13 A Humboldt Broncos are heading to the ‘B’ Provincial finals. 

On Sunday, Humboldt completed their two-game sweep of the Meadow Lake Stampeders in the North Final with a 11-3 win at the Elgar Petersen Arena.  

Humboldt will meet the Moosomin Rangers in the Provincial final. They advanced after defeating the Shaunavon Badgers in the South final.  

Championship finals are underway in Senior Hockey Leagues throughout the province.  

The Long Lake Hockey League championship finals has now turned into a best of three after the Foam Lake Flyers and Drake Canucks split the first two games of the series. On Friday night, Foam Lake earned a 4-2 win over Drake. There will be a short break for the Long Lake finals as the Flyers compete in the ‘C’ Provincial finals. Game three will be on Friday, March 28 in Foam Lake.
