Barrett Smith catches thunder: HCI WR signs with Regina Thunder for 2025 season
Barrett Smith was lightning quick on the field for the Humboldt Collegiate Institue (HCI) Mohawks football team over the last four years.
Now he will have the chance to be a member of the Thunder in the Queen City.
During the Christmas holidays, Smith received a special gift, signing a commitment to Regina Thunder for the 2025 season.

Broncos begin roster shuffling ahead of Friday's trade deadline
Before the Humboldt Broncos began 2025 on the ice, they were busy off the ice.
On Friday night, the Broncos acquired 20-year-old goaltender Dazza Mitchell along with a 2025 draft pick from the Weyburn Red Wings in exchange for 19-year-old forward Josh Sale and 19-year-old goalie Ty Matonovich.
Mitchell has appeared in 116 games with the Red Wings between 2021-24, registering 48 wins during that time.

Broncos begin 2025 against Kindersley
With a new year comes change.
The Humboldt Broncos hope the change will reflect in a positive way as they kick off the 2025 portion of their schedule on Saturday, when they host the Kindersley Klippers.
Heading into the weekend, the Broncos are on the edge of the playoff picture, holding down the final playoff spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) with 31 points, a slim two-point advantage over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
Muyres and Walker eliminated from contention at the Olympic Trials
Kirk Muyres and Laura Walker Olympic dreams were dashed on Thursday after they were eliminated from the Mixed Doubles Curling Canadian Olympic Trials in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
In their final matchup of the round robin, the Muyres and Walker were defeated by the Saskatoon duo of Nancy Martin and Steve Laycock 7-5.
Broncos Oakley McIlwain named SJHL's Defenceman of the Month (Dec.)
Humboldt Broncos defenceman Oakley McIlwain ended 2024 on a strong note.
McIlwain was named the SJHL’s SuperU Defenceman of the Month for December.
In eight games, the Lloydminster product collected nine points (4G-5A).
On the season, the Broncos defenceman has 23 points (7G-16A) in 28 games.

On Monday, the Roughriders acquired the playing rights for Jake Maier from the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for a conditional 8th round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft.
Maier was the Stampeders starting quarterback for the last two seasons, taking over the reins from Bo Levi Mitchell.
