Beckett Hamilton selected to National U17 Development Camp

80 players have been selected to attend Hockey Canada’s national U17 development camp, which is being held at Joshua’s Creek Arena in Oakville, Ontario. 

One of the players selected is Humboldt’s Beckett Hamilton.  

Last season, Hamilton spent most of the 2023-24 campaign with the U18 AAA Warman Wildcats, ending the year with 54 points (21G-33A) in 44 games.  

Beat the heat with Ice Cream Day at the Humboldt Museum

With sizzling summer temperatures, some ice cream sounds like the perfect treat. 

 The Humboldt Museum celebrates ice cream day on Saturday afternoon from 1-4pm.  

You can head down to the museum and learn how to make homemade ice cream and you can treat yourself after the work is done to a sundae or a float. Also, you can create your own ice cream themed craft.  

East Central 18U AAA Red Sox pick up convincing win over Saskatoon Cubs

The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox dominated the Saskatoon Cubs last night, earning themselves a 9-2 win.

Dallen Rude led the way at the plate for the Red Sox with a pair of home runs and three RBIs.
It was a quick start for the Red Sox opening up with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. After extending the lead to 5-0 in the 5th, the Cubs responded with a pair of runs in the top of the 6th, the Red Sox put the game away in the bottom of the inning with four runs to make the final 9-2. 

East Central 15U AAA Dodgers come up short against Saskatoon Expos

It was a high scoring affair on Thursday night between the East Central AAA 15U Dodgers and Saskatoon Expos, with the Expos coming up on top with 12-9. 

The Dodgers jumped ahead in the 2nd inning with a pair of runs before the Expos scored four in the bottom of the inning. The Dodgers responded with five runs over the next two innings which the Expos matched in the bottom of the 4th. The Dodgers tied the game in the top of the 5th with two runs, but the Expos would seal the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th.

Humboldt's Brad Lauer named Head Coach of the Spokane Chiefs

Brad Lauer is back in the Western Hockey League (WHL) as the Spokane Chiefs have named the Humboldt product the team's new head coach. 

The past two seasons Lauer has been an assistant coach with the Winnipeg Jets. Prior to joining the Jets, Lauer was behind the bench as head coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings leading them to a WHL Championship in 2021-22. During that season the Oil Kings established new franchise records for longest win-streak in a single season (14 games) and best winning percentage (.765).

Watrous welcomes new group home for persons with intellectual disabilities

A new group home in Watrous will now allow four individuals with intellectual disabilities a safe living space. 

The home is operated by the Interlake Human Resources Corporation (IHRC) and received support from the provincial government with $1.4 million in construction funding from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, the Ministry of Social Services is providing approximately $505,000 in annual operating funding.   

Constuction season for streets of Humboldt

Summertime means it's construction time. 

 That's been the case within Humboldt as a few streets have been getting some repairs done recently.  

After some rainy weather in June that caused some delays, a warm July with little precipitation has allowed work to move ahead.  

Director of Public Works Peter Bergquist says there are a few projects that are currently underway.  

East Central 15U AAA Dodgers end Evan Thomas Memorial tournament strong with a pair of wins

The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers competed in the Evan Thomas Memorial tournament this weekend in Saskatoon, ending with a record of 2-2.  

The Dodgers opened the tournament on Friday night with a 13-3 loss to the Parkland Twins. Luke Manz hit a solo home run to lead the offence. The Dodgers were limited to two hits during the game.  

Riders forced to regroup after their first loss of season to BC

The Saskatchewan Roughriders tasted defeat for the first time in the 2024 season after a 35-20 loss to the BC Lions on Saturday.  

Former members of the Roughriders came back to haunt their old team, receiver Justin McInnis continued his hot start to the season with 14 receptions for 243 yards and a touchdown.  

Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr had 451 passing yards along with a touchdown.
