Celebrate Saskatchewan Tourism Week in the Southwest
The provincial government has proclaimed April 24th to 30th as Saskatchewan Tourism Week to correlate with the national celebration of Tourism Week in Canada.
Jackie Moore, Host of Tourism Swift Current Visitor Center Services, explained that tourism is important for a variety of different reasons.

Saskatchewan RCMP's Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST), assisted by the Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) and North Battleford Gang Task Force (GTF), located and arrested Colton Swiftwolfe and Wionna Katcheech on April 25.
The following day, on April 26, Alex Gopher turned himself in to the North Battleford RCMP Detachment. He was taken into custody with assistance from WEST and STRT members.
All three appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 27.

Preliminary timeline of James Smith Cree Nation homicides to be presented on Thursday
The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit has announced that they will be presenting a preliminary timeline of the events that took place at James Smith Cree Nation in early September, which left 11 individuals dead and 18 more injured.
On September 4, 2022, Myles Sanderson stabbed multiple people before going into medical distress and passing after shortly after being taken into custody.
SHA urges residents to catch up on immunizations
Today marks the beginning of Immunization Awareness Week in Canada, which intends to highlight the importance protecting yourself from vaccine preventable diseases.
David Freeman, Communications Consultant for the Saskatchewan Health Authority, said that there has been a decrease in immunizations over the last several years.
Swift Current baker generates large donation for Salvation Army
Three years ago, when the world shut down, many people were left struggling while also wondering what to do with their new normal.
One Swift Current resident, Doreen Marten, who had been battling cancer in the month prior to the pandemic, found herself wanting to help others that were struggling and took it upon herself to remedy the situation the best way she knew how. By baking and selling bread and donating the proceeds to the Salvation Army in Swift Current.
Saskatchewan invests in safer communities
Saskatchewan is looking to expand its Crime Reduction Teams (CRT) and Warrant Enforcement Suppression Teams (WEST) which will build upon the significant successes of the past year.
In the first two months of 2023 alone, WEST and CRT have removed a total of 67 guns, 142 grams of meth, 2,019 grams of cocaine, and three grams of fentanyl from Saskatchewan communities.

With summer just around the corner, the Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association has put the call out for individuals or organizations to register floats for the 2023 Frontier Days Parade.
The parade, which will kick off at 10:00 a.m. on Canada Day, will coincide with the 85th anniversary of Frontier Days.
Madison Beam, Director of Youth Initiatives for the Swift Current Ag & Ex, said the theme for this year's parade is ‘Let’s Celebrate’.
Fire ignites quick response from Swift Current Fire Department
The Swift Current Fire Department was dispatched to a residential basement fire at 12:10 a.m. on April 16.
Eight personnel and three vehicles responded to the fire located on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue Southeast.
Firefighters arrived to a smoke-filled house, from which the residents had quickly and safely evacuated.
RCMP seeking assistance locating man connected to crimes in Swift Current
Rosetown RCMP received a report on January 13, 2023, that 36-year-old David Cressman failed to attend court in Rosetown.
Cressman was scheduled to appear on a number of charges in relation to incidents that occurred in the Rosetown and Swift Current areas.
These charges include break and enter, unauthorized transfer of a firearm, fraud and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Rosetown RCMP have been checking locations he is known to visit and following up on information and tips received in an effort to locate him.
Traffic slowed in downtown Swift Current
A motor vehicle collision on Cheadle Street East and 1st Avenue Northeast is currently slowing down traffic in downtown Swift Current.
Two vehicles appear to be involved in the collision, a blue car and a silver SUV.
Swift Current Emergency Services and Low Cost Towing are currently on the scene.
