Experience the beauty of winter in Cypress Hills

Residents in the southwest searching for outdoor adventures need only look as far as Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. 

Every Saturday, two different programs are being featured in the park; a guided snowshoe program in the afternoon and an astronomy program in the evening. 

Brennan Rumancik, Southwest Parks program coordinator, explained that the snowshoe program begins at 2:00 p.m. and cycles on a four-week rotation.

Saskatchewan residents planning destination vacations out of Regina via Sunwing Airlines are being required to find another option. 

As a result, travellers have been left scurrying to make other arrangements, either by rebooking their trip through Sunwing from a different city in Canada or starting the planning process from scratch. 

UPDATE: Saskatchewan RCMP looking to track down wanted man

Update written January 25:

Vincent Williamson was found and arrested at a Saskatoon residence yesterday.

According to a media release sent out last night, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) located and arrested Williamson at an apartment with the help of Saskatoon Police Service. 

Students recipients of Royal mail

Functional Integrated Program (FIP) students at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School recently received some special mail from across the pond. 

The letter, signed by His Majesty, King Charles III, arrived after the students wrote sympathy cards to various members of the royal family when Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September. 

Southwest resident to be honoured in tomorrow's ceremony

Saskatchewan is recognizing residents of all ages, from all walks of life, that have made a significant contribution to society with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal. 

The medal was created to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession to the Throne and is a way to honour the Queen’s service to Canada. 

World Snow Day returns to Swift Current

The long-lasting partnership between the Swift Current Nordic Ski Club and the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre continued over the weekend to celebrate World Snow Day. 

The fun filled afternoon took place on Sunday at the Chinook Golf Course and featured cross country skiing, sled dog demonstrations and more. 

The first World Snow Day event took place back in 2017 after Ian Rewcastle, organizer of the event, reached out to the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre to join forces.
