Lumsden-Morse by-election on the horizon

The Lumsden-Morse by-election is quickly approaching, giving eligible voters the opportunity to cast their vote for one of five candidates. 

Lumsden-Morse, a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, covers the rural area along the Trans Canada Highway between Swift Current and Regina, excluding Moose Jaw. To the northeast, it expands to the shores of Last Mountain Lake and includes the towns of Lumsden and Regina Beach.

Kaitlyn Stadnyk looks to spark change in Lumsden-Morse 

Kaitlyn Stadnyk is bringing a sense of enthusiasm and a drive for change to the upcoming Lumsden-Morse byelection, as she represents the New Democratic Party. 

Stadnyk's deep-rooted ties to her community and her academic pursuits in human justice have pushed her to step onto the political stage, with goals of addressing pressing issues and fighting for positive change. 

Originally from a farm, just outside of Lumsden, Stadnyk's upbringing instilled a strong connection to rural life. 

Blaine McLeod: From dairy farmer to political leader in Saskatchewan

Blaine McLeod, an experienced dairy farmer from Caronport, with 42 years of farming under his belt, is running in the upcoming Lumsden-Morse byelection, representing The Saskatchewan Party. 

McLeod's strong ties to the community and desire to serve the people have motivated him to enter the political arena. 

Special Air Quality Statement issued in the Southwest

Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Swift Current, Herbert, Cabri, Kyle, and Lucky Lake.

The alert was issued due to smoke causing reduced visibility and poor air quality today.

Air quality and reduced visibility due to wildfire smoke can vary from hour to hour and can fluctuate over short distances.

Wildfire smoke, even at low concentrations, can be harmful to everyone's health and everyone can take precautions to reduce their exposure.

Saskatchewan seeks proposals for suicide postvention program

The Government of Saskatchewan has taken a significant step towards enhancing mental health support for those impacted by suicide. 

Earlier this week, a Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued to find a qualified organization to develop and operate a provincial suicide postvention program.  

The Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, Seniors in Rural and Remote Health, and Swift Current MLA, Everett Hindley, announced the initiative earlier this week.

Canadian sex offender's trial delayed in South Dakota

The highly anticipated trial of Benjamin Martin Moore, a Canadian sex offender facing charges in the United States, has been postponed. 

Initially scheduled to begin on August 1, the trial was delayed after a motion for continuance was granted by the court.  

The delay comes as a result of the case being reassigned to a new judge. 

Moore previously pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against him. 

Canada wide warrant issued for homicide suspect

A Canada-Wide Warrant has been issued for homicide suspect, "Juma" Daniel Drie Atem, by the Regina Police Service.

The 30-year-old male is wanted for first-degree murder in a homicide that occurred in the 2100 block of Broad Street, on July 29.

Atem is described as having a dark complexion and a thin build. He is 6'3" tall, and approximately 140 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. The Regina Police Service is asking the public for any information regarding his whereabouts.
