Kyle cheers on steers for centennial

Despite the rain trying to put a damper on the festivities, the community of Kyle came together over the past weekend to celebrate its centennial anniversary and the 47 annual rodeo.  

The celebratory weekend kicked off with a rodeo family dance and a baseball game on Friday. 

 Amber Dashney, the administrator for the Town of Kyle, noted that the celebrations drew people from all over the globe. 

Saskatchewan seeks proposals for suicide postvention program

The Government of Saskatchewan has taken a significant step towards enhancing mental health support for those impacted by suicide. 

Earlier this week, a Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued to find a qualified organization to develop and operate a provincial suicide postvention program.  

The Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, Seniors in Rural and Remote Health, and Swift Current MLA, Everett Hindley, announced the initiative earlier this week.

Meteor magic: Perseid Shower peaks this weekend

Astronomers and enthusiasts are gearing up for a weekend of stargazing wonder as the Perseid Meteor Shower prepares to reach its peak. 

The peak of the shower is set to light up the night sky this weekend, with experts predicting a spectacle that's not to be missed. 

The shower is produced by debris left behind by 109P/Swift-Tuttle, which orbits Earth at regular intervals. 

Meteorologist breaks down current storm cell

Environment Canada is currently tracking a severe thunderstorm, located 10 kilometres southwest of Swift Current. 

Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Terri Lang, elaborated on the storm cell currently moving through the Southwest. 

“It looks like the one thunderstorm cell went a little bit south of Swift Current,” she stated. “It does look like there was probably some hail in there. We haven't had any reports, but it looked like just from the radar that there could have been some hail in there and certainly some locally heavy downpours.” 

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect

Environment Canada meteorologists are currently tracking a severe thunderstorm that is capable of producing strong winds, nickel-sized hail, and heavy rain.

A Severe Thunderstorm has been issued for the RM of Swift Current and the RM of Coulee

The storm is located 10 kilometres southeast of Swift Current and is moving east at 55 kilometres an hour.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing large hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall.

 

Legion initiative honours heroes 

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 has announced the return of its Veteran of the Week Program for the third consecutive year.  

The program, which honours the service and sacrifices of veterans, will run for a span of ten weeks this year, featuring ten remarkable veterans from various branches of service and eras.  

Cougar sightings stir buzz in Cypress Hills
