SaskPower establishes SaskNuclear for development of small modular reactors
SaskPower has announced they are creating a new subsidiary in SaskNuclear to manage their work on producing small modular reactors (SMR).
Their work is seeing one SMR built in the Estevan area, with more possibly to come following that unit's construction after 2030.
The new subsidiary will be focused on the regulatory and business processes involved in nuclear development.

Province announces investment for 5,000 more childcare spaces
The federal and provincial governments have announced a combined investment of $71.3 million which will allocate over 5,000 child care spaces across the province over 2024-25.
This is part of the ongoing funding that has paid for child care spaces across the province, beginning in 2023.
The province says that so far 1,537 of these child care spaces have been allocated to new child care facilities or added to existing facilities in 27 Saskatchewan communities and 36 organizations.

Saskatchewan students will have more opportunities to get involved with the power industry as SaskPower and the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Corporation (DLC) are teaming up for online courses.
Those focus on 5th and 4th class power engineering, with the classes previously offered by SaskPower but now going through the DLC program.

The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan sent out notices on four companies - Capitals Gain, AmCan, Lova Crypto, and CGWise.

Province hunting for help with Chronic Wasting Disease in deer
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is an issue seen across the prairies with Saskatchewan's Ministry of Environment wanting to take a closer look at that.
As such they've been monitoring chronic wasting disease for decades, relying on hunters to report their findings in the field.

Federal government imposes binding arbitration, ending railway stoppage after less than 24 hours
The federal government has decided to impose binding arbitration between the Teamster's Canada Rail Conference, CN Rail, and CPKC.
The worker's union and the two companies had entered into a lockout at 12:01 a.m. this morning.
Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon announced the decision at a news conference in the afternoon.
That came after the Canada Industrial Relations Board set August 22 as the date for strike action, following a decision that labeled the rail industry as non-essential.
