Rockin’ Summer 2025

The Carman Country Fair last weekend offered something for everyone, with a talent show, the Wondershows Midway, and dirt bike barrel racing all only taking up a fraction of what the fair had to offer. 

As the Carman Country Fair gets into full swing this weekend, a familiar sight will once again take to the streets during Saturday’s parade (July 12). Members of the Carman Dufferin Fire Department will be walking with boots in hand, ready to collect donations from the crowd.

Fire Chief Chris Lemky shared his excitement about the fair and the department’s annual boot drive, a longstanding tradition that raises funds to support local firefighting efforts.

One of the oldest and most beloved fairs in Western Canada is back and better than ever! The Carman Country Fair runs this weekend (July 10–12), kicking off summer in the Pembina Valley with a full weekend of agriculture, entertainment, and high-octane fun for all ages. “This is the 145th Carman Country Fair,” said Elaine Owen with the Dufferin Agricultural Society. “Very few fairs have been around that long, and even fewer keep reinventing themselves like this one.”

The Manitou Agricultural Fair was a hub of family fun last weekend, with the community coming together to organize a wide range of activities, from 4-H and horse shows to trying out farm equipment.  

What makes a place worthy of celebration? 

For Steve Hildebrand, who recently spearheaded festivities for the village of Schoenwiese, it’s a combination of having a “great time” growing up in the community and awareness of its past as one of the first landing sites of Mennonites in the area. 

It’s also celebrating a milestone.

Morden community center 500 Stephen hosted a fundraiser Car Show on Saturday, July 5th, taking up the parking lot of the Morden Plaza. Supported by the community and businesses of the plaza, the car show served as an intersection between the community and car enthusiasts.  

Over 2,000 entries poured in over the Canada Day long weekend as people across the Pembina Valley entered the Morden Home Hardware Rockin’ Summer Winning Weekend for a chance at some serious summer prizes. At the top of the heap? A 50” Samsung Crystal UHD TV from My AutoGlass and a Golden Ticket to the Rockin’ Summer Grand Finale at Morden Home Hardware.

The lucky winner? Tim Giesbrecht of Winkler, who says the win came after a pretty laid-back weekend.

The City of Morden and Lake Minnewasta’s annual Beach Blast and fireworks show had to compete with an all-natural light show on Tuesday, July 1, with severe thunderstorms putting the fireworks on pause until later in the evening. While the rain and lightning may have put a literal damper on festivities, the Beach Blast was still the hot spot for Canada Day festivities in the Pembina Valley.  

Canada Day celebrations at Lake Minnewasta are well underway, and the energy is building for a day packed with family-friendly fun, lakeside vibes, and unforgettable fireworks. Morden’s annual Beach Blast is back, and this year's event promises to be one of the biggest yet.
