Tina Petrow announces bid for mayor
Today, Airdrie councillor Tina Petrow announced that she is running for mayor in the upcoming municipal election.
"I have been thinking about this decision for a while, and I have decided to step forward and put my name forward for mayor in the upcoming election."
Petrow explained that her full campaign will be launched on September 13. She also shared that she is filing her papers today.
Airdrie’s Peter Brown bows out: Mayor won’t seek re-election
This morning, Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown shared his decision on whether he will be running for re-election.
Brown took to social media to share that he is not running for re-election, meaning Airdrie will have a new mayor by the end of October.
"I will say that my heart was 100 per cent in, but my head definitely needed some help. So, no, I won't be running," he shared on social media.
Brown has been the mayor of Airdrie since 2010.
Hear town council, mayor candidates at Cochrane forum
The Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting a municipal election forum on October 14th, giving residents and business owners a chance to hear from candidates for town council and mayor.
Participants are asked to pre-register online through the Chamber’s website, where they can also submit questions in advance.
McFadden's campaign focuses on balancing growth with community spirit
Longtime councillor Tara McFadden is seeking re-election, pledging to balance the town’s rapid growth with the “small-town feel” Cochranites treasure.
McFadden was one of five candidates officially added to the candidates’ list today for the Oct. 20 municipal election.
A Cochrane resident for 22 years, McFadden says she wants to continue focusing on making life more affordable and accessible for residents. She has long advocated for improved public engagement, as well as expanded parks and recreation spaces.
Candidates step forward for Rocky View council seats
With the nomination deadline less than a month away, several Rocky View County residents have already put their names forward for council.
RVC councillors are elected by division, with voters casting ballots in their own area. The County has seven divisions in total, and each October, council selects a Reeve and Deputy Reeve at its annual Organizational Meeting.

Strathmore library gathering questions for Municipal Election candidates
This is your chance to ask candidates a question in the upcoming Municipal Election in Strathmore.
On Monday (Aug. 25), the Strathmore Municipal Library announced that they were gathering questions for council and mayoral candidates from Strathmore residents.
"Share what matters most to you and have your voice heard," wrote the library.
There are 12 candidates currently running in the election, with 10 looking to join council, and two placing their bids for mayor.
Airdrie municipal election candidates to face questions in Sept. 29 online forum
The Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a virtual municipal candidates forum on Sept. 29 ahead of Airdrie’s Oct. 20 election.
The chamber said the event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. MDT on Zoom and is free to the public, with a business focus in mind.
Council candidates will deliver introductions and answer prepared questions, followed by mayoral candidates. Registration is recommended, with a link to the forum to be emailed to registrants and posted on the chamber’s event page by Sept. 26.
