A weather system headed for southern Manitoba could bring major rainfall and flooding to parts of the Southeast.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement covering areas including Whiteshell, Lac du Bonnet, Pinawa, Sprague, Bissett, Victoria Beach, Nopiming Provincial Park, Pine Falls, and Northwest Angle Provincial Forest.

Carney says Middle East 'highly volatile' after U.S. strikes Iran, calls for calm

Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling for de-escalation after the United States carried out strikes against Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday.

Carney issued a social media post saying the U.S. military action was "designed to alleviate" threats posed by Iran, but the situation in the Middle East remains "highly volatile."

He says stability in the region is a priority and is calling on parties to get back to the negotiating table to find a diplomatic solution.

Ste. Anne celebrates grand opening of new Clearview Co-op store

Clearview Co-op officially opened its brand-new grocery store in Ste. Anne on Friday, drawing large crowds for the grand opening celebration. The full-service store is Clearview’s flagship location and marks a significant milestone for the community where the company originally began as Ste. Anne Co-op.

Henry Nickel, who retired in March 2024 after 46 years with the company, attended the opening which happened to be on his 70th birthday.

Canada's population sees minimal increase to start 2025

Canada's population came to a near standstill in early 2025.

Statistics Canada's quarterly demographic report, released Wednesday, shows Canada's population increased by just 20,107 people from January 1st to April 1st. That is an increase of less than .1 per cent. Our country's population is now 41,548,787. This was the smallest quarterly gain since the third quarter of 2020, when the population actually decreased by 1,232 people, in the wake of border restrictions to slow the spread of COVID-19.

The 5th annual Southeast Truck show brings in donations for the community

This weekend brought a ton of semi-trucks to Steinbach for the Southeast Truck Show.   

Organizer Bill Schroeder says that the truck show started 5 years ago to help his daughter working for Youth For Christ raise enough to finance her year.   

“I figured I'd get 10,12,13 trucks together, have a little bit of a shindig, and make a couple bucks. Well, that ended up being 41 semis' and we may raise over $10,000.”  

Adult and Teen Challange held its first ever Transformation Tractor Ride

Neufeld’s Garage hosted Adult and Teen Challange’s first-ever Transformation Tractor Ride.   

The fundraiser included approximately 50 sponsored tractors driving to raise funds for a life free from addiction.   

CEO of Adult and Teen Challenge, Daniel Emond, says that this fundraiser focuses on support from the Steinbach area.
