Kirbi Paypompee, a resident of Dryden, Ontario passed away at her residence on December 1, 2022.

Kirbi was predeceased by her grandparents Tom Paypompee and Virginia Paul, great grandparents Steven and Florence Bird, Frank and Adeline Sandy, Isaac Paypompee, Ida Oshie, her brother Kiizhagonoong and cousin Lance Tom.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ron Roy McDonald of One Man Lake First Nation (Wabaseemoong) at 65 years of age. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and a good friend to many.

With her three children Billy, Barry and Donna holding hands surrounding her, our beautiful mother Sharon passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta at eighty years of age.

Single-vehicle accident on Lakeview Drive

Emergency responders are on the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Lakeview Drive, near the old Kenora Forest Products sawmill.

Kenora Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident shortly after 11:30 a.m. this morning. At this time, there are no reports of any injuries or the cause of the collision.

Residents are asked to drive with caution in the area.

Ottawa police cut email access over fears info would leak during 'Freedom Convoy'

Ottawa police were so concerned about leaks from "Freedom Convoy" sympathizers in their ranks that they proactively shut off the email accounts of members on leave, but now the force has little to say about how real those fears turned out to be.

The Public Order Emergency Commission investigating the federal Liberal government’s use of the Emergencies Act learned there were several times when senior officers were concerned protesters who gridlocked downtown Ottawa for several weeks last winter were getting leaks.

Assault at downtown business raises further safety concerns

One person has been charged, and a local business employee has suffered minor injuries following an altercation over the weekend. 

On Saturday December 10, officers with the Kenora O.P.P. responded to a report of an assault of an employee at the Red Apple store on Main Street. When police arrived, they witnessed Kenora resident Felicity Loon damaging merchandise. The 23-year-old is also reported to have assaulted an O.P.P. officer. 

Loon was criminally charged with mischief, assault, and assault of an officer. 

Two Québec residents charged following break and enter in Wabigoon

Two Québec residents are facing charges following a break-and-enter in Wabigoon. 

On December 10, 2022 at approximately 7:24 a.m. officers received a report of a break and enter in progress at a business in the Hamlet of Wabigoon.

Officers attended the business and found that entry was made at the business by damaging a window. Once inside, a number of cigarettes and processed meats were removed.

NDP leader threatens to pull out agreement with the Liberals over health care

The New Democrats are ready to withdraw from their confidence-and-supply agreement they signed with the Liberals if there is no federal action to address the health-care crisis, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Monday.

The deal reached in March would see the NDP support the minority government on key votes in the House of Commons to avoid triggering an election before 2025. In exchange, the Liberals have promised to make progress on a number of NDP priorities, including health care.

More details on fatal crash involving two Steinbach men

Police have provided more details on a deadly crash that took the lives of two men from Steinbach Friday afternoon.

Jeff Duggan, Detachment Commander and Inspector for Kenora OPP, says they were first notified at around noon on Friday of the crash along the Trans-Canada Highway. They responded to the two-vehicle collision in the area of Clearwater Bay. Clearwater Bay is about 25 kilometres east of the Manitoba/Ontario border.
